EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures has landed the pitch Guinevere, a new take on the King Arthur story, that has Emma Holly Jones directing and Kristina Lauren Anderson writing. Sources say the film is in early development at the studio.
Details behind the project are vague other then it being a fresh take on the Arthurian story told through the eyes of Arthur’s Queen. Arthur has been a tale first told in 12th Century literature and has since become one of literature’s great heroes being retold in various versions both in print and on screen. Hollywood has especially been high on the story with a number of feature adaptations making it way to theaters over the year but never has the woman by his side been featured as the central character.
Jones is a rising star in directing ranks receiving critical acclaim after directing and producing both the short and feature versions of Mr. Malcolm’s List, a period romantic comedy starring Freida Pinto, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Zawe Ashton, and Theo James. Released globally in 2022 by Universal Pictures and Bleecker Street, the film received both critical and audience acclaim. Jones is currently developing projects with Star Thrower Entertainment and Raw TV. She is represented by CAA, Curtis Brown, Rogue Management, and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
Anderson is currently penning the sequel to the Disney live-action hit Cruella, with Emma Stone starring and producing, Craig Gillespie directing and Marc Platt and Kristin Burr producing. She broke onto the scene 10 years ago with her feature script Catherine The Great, which was #1 on The Black List. She has written adaptations of Paulo Coehlo’s global best-seller The Alchemist for TriStar with Gil Netter producing; Swan Lake for Universal with Felicity Jones starring, Luca Guadagnino directing and Mandeville Films producing through Universal.
In the TV space, she recently developed Fantasia as an animated series for Disney+, and she also recently wrote Kick, based on the life of Kick Kennedy, as an ongoing series for Apple with Fake Empire producing. She previously served as Consulting Producer on TNT’s Golden Globe-nominated event series The Alienist. She is repped by WME, Range and attorney Robby Koch.
