EXCLUSIVE: Sony is developing Jennifer L. Armentrout‘s series of books including the New York Times bestseller From Blood and Ash for television.

The project will be developed as an ongoing series that includes five Blood And Ash books: From Blood and Ash, A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire, The Crown of Gilded Bones, The War of Two Queens, and A Soul of Ash and Blood, sources close to production tell Deadline.

The book series follows Poppy, whose life has never been her own since being chosen at birth to usher in a new era. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor-bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

Sony successfully adapted the hit Diane Gabaldon book series Outlander for Starz which is gearing up to conclude after 8 seasons. The franchise will continue, however, via the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, following the parents of Outlander‘s main characters Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

While the From Blood and Ash book series TV adaptation focuses on 5 books, it could expand similarly to Outlander. Armentrout is set to release a sixth installment, The Primal of Blood and Bone, next year and a whole prequel series already exists. The Flesh and Fire spinoff prequel series has four books: A Shadow in the Ember, A Light in the Flame, A Fire in the Flesh, and Born of Blood and Ash.

Armentrout is a New York Times best-selling author who writes for the YA crowd and adults, the latter under the pseudonym J. Lynn. In addition to the From Blood and Ash series, she authored several other popular series including Covenant and its prequel series Titan; Lux and its spinoff Origin; The Dark Elements and its prequel series Harbinger; and the Wicked trilogy, to name a few.

In early 2015, Armentrout was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a group of rare genetic disorders that involve a breakdown and death of cells in the retina, eventually resulting in loss of vision, among other complications. Due to this diagnosis, educating people on the varying degrees of blindness has become a passion of hers, right alongside writing, which she plans to do as long as she can.

Armentrout is repped by Lucy Stille Literary Agency and Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.
