Apple TV has become the go-to streaming service for fans around the world searching for the best sci-fi shows, and the one that stands above the rest is Severance. The series aired its first season all the way back in 2022, and after a three-year gap, it returned in 2025 with another critically acclaimed installment. Apple TV renewed Severance for Season 3 a year ago on the day of the Season 2 finale, but the show has yet to begin filming. Reports indicate that this summer is the most likely window for cameras to roll, which would almost certainly leave its release day sometime in 2027.
During a recent interview at SXSW with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff to promote his new movie, The Saviors, Severance star Adam Scott was asked what feels different about jumping into Season 3 than how he felt going into Seasons 1 and 2:
“Well, the great thing about the show is that every time we’re starting a new season, this time Season 3, the characters, and not just mine, are in a vastly different place than they were at the beginning of the previous season. So we have to think about all the things from the last season that redefines them, both from the outside, from the audience’s perspective, but also how they define themselves. It’s always shifting and evolving. So, it’s starting everything from a brand-new place, which is exciting.”
Nemiroff also squeaked in one final question, which was asking Scott if there would be anything in the third season that challenges him as an actor, and he didn’t hesitate in saying, “Yes, many things. It’s going to be super interesting and super fun. I think if you like the show, you’ll love it.”
What Does Britt Lower Invision for Helly in ‘Severance’ Season 3?
Collider’s Perri Nemiroff also had the chance to chat with Severance’s Britt Lower at SXSW to chat about her new movie, Sender. The film co-stars Rhea Seehorn, star of another Apple TV sci-fi masterpiece, Pluribus. Nemiroff asked a similar question, inquiring about where we’ll find Helly in Season 3. She spoke more about how her personal life has shaped where Helly’s journey is going to take her in Season 3:
“That is the beauty of doing television, is that it is seasonal and that you do put the characters back on a shelf for a bit and be like ‘I’ll be right back.’ You go live your life and grow and evolve. I don’t know if I have a formed answer for you, but I think the dialogue we’ve been in with our fans and with journalists like yourself has really taught us more about the message that people are receiving from the show and the way it’s impacting their lives, and that has an effect, too.”
She continued, speaking more specifically to what she’ll be bringing to playing Helly for the third time, “So, I think I’ll go back in with a sense that the story we’re mining is primal and it’s touching people at their core and asking them, ‘What are we doing here? And what does it mean to be human?’ And those are the questions that I’m going to bring into Season 3.”
Check out the first two seasons of Severance on Apple TV and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Season 3.
