At CinemaCon, Warner Bros. finally showed its hand — unveiling a new specialty film label to be run by a trio of creative executives from the Oscar-winning indie studio Neon.
Named Clockwork, WB film heads Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy presented the new shingle at the annual convention of movie theater owners in Las Vegas. The new division will be run by former Neon CMO Christian Parkes, whose nearly 10-year run at Tom Quinn’s shop resulted in campaigns for “Parasite,” “Hereditary” and “Longlegs.”
It’s inaugural project is “Ti Amo!” from four-time Oscar winner Sean Baker — who defects from his habitual indie distributors A24 and Neon and elevates to the big time after a history-making haul for his last film “Anora.” In February, Baker told Variety that the film was ” my love letter to the Italian sex comedies of the ’60s and ’70s.”
Baker will write, direct, edit, cast, and produce while reteaming with “Anora” producers Alex Coco and Samantha Quan. The team’s production companies, Cre Film and Rapt Film, are producing and the film is financed by FilmNation Entertainment.
Parkes’ fellow Neon expats Jason Wald and Spener Collantes also joined the new label — as acquisitions and production chief and marketing and creative vice president, respectively. TK’s mission is to develop, make and acquire “smartly budgeted global theatrical releases with innovative marketing campaigns.” A lot like the kind Neon and A24 have released, making generation-defining brands in the process.
An early mandate has Clockwork set for two or three releases per year. Parkes will report to De Luca and Abdy.
