‘RJ Decker’ Renewed for Season 2 at ABC

ABC has renewed the freshman drama “RJ Decker for Season 2, Variety has learned.

With the renewal, ABC has now picked up its entire existing primetime scripted lineup for the 2026-2027 broadcast season. The network previously renewed the dramas “9-1-1,” “9-1-1 Nashville,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “High Potential,” and “Will Trent,” as well as the comedies “Scrubs,” “Abbott Elementary,” and “Shifting Gears.”

“RJ Decker,” which is inspired by the Carl Hiaasen novel “Double Whammy,” debuted on ABC in March, with the first season consisting of nine episodes. Per Nielsen data, the series premiere has reached 15.2 million total viewers through 35 days of multiplatform viewing.

Scott Speedman stars in the title role, with the show also starring Jaina Lee Ortiz as Emilia “Emi” Ochoa, Bevin Bru as Detective Melody “Mel” Abreu, Kevin Rankin as Aloysius “Wish” Aiken and Adelaide Clemens as Catherine Delacroix.

The logline for the show states, “R.J. Decker is a former newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida. The series follows him tackling cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife and a shadowy woman from his past who could be his greatest ally … or his one-way ticket back to prison.

Rob Doherty serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman are executive producers, along with Hiaasen and Jason Tracey. Speedman is a producer. 20th Television is the studio.
