Ridley Scott is best known for his work directing massive sci-fi epics like Alien and Blade Runner, but last year he worked on a more grounded Apple TV series that’s returned to streaming charts. Scott directed several episodes of Dope Thief, the 2025 series starring Brian Tyree Henry and recent Oscar nominee Wagner Moura. The show follows two long-time friends and delinquents who pose as DEA agents to rob a house, but things go south when they find themselves in a massive drug conspiracy. Nearly a year after it first premiered, Dope Thief is back in the Apple TV top 10 in several countries around the world.
Dope Thief is a limited series, meaning there was never a plan for Apple TV to renew it for a second season. This didn’t stop fans from inquiring about a potential Season 2, though, especially considering it earned such positive scores of 87% from critics and 83% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Apple TV has plenty of bingeable shows, but perhaps none better for binging than Dope Thief. All eight episodes run 45-55 minutes, for a total of roughly 5–6 hours. It also pulls you in from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the finale.
Ridley Scott has been hard at work since Dope Thief first arrived on Apple TV last year. He has since wrapped production on his next movie, The Dog Stars, which will be released in theaters on August 28. It was previously scheduled to premiere in March before being delayed near the end of last year.
Who Stars in Ridley Scott’s Next Movie?
Ridley Scott has recruited Josh Brolin and Jacob Elordi to star in his next movie. Margaret Qualley and Guy Pearce have also been tapped to star in vital roles in the film, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world where society has mostly been wiped out. Elordi will play the protagonist, Hig, in the film, a former pilot who survived the onslaught but lost his wife in the process. MCU veteran Benedict Wong will also be seen in the film. Scott also confirmed to Collider last year that he’s working on a Western that could be next after The Dog Stars.
Be sure to check out all episodes of Dope Thief on Apple TV and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Ridley Scott’s next movie.
