This retired actor, now 81, was spotted on a rare public outing with his longtime wife in Los Angeles last week.

His appearance comes two decades after stepping back from Hollywood following his 12-year run on NYPD Blue.

He is best known for portraying Detective Andy Sipowicz on the ABC television series.

For his performance on the police procedural television series, he earned a Golden Globe, three Screen Actors Guild Awards as well as four Primetime Emmy Awards.

He looked nearly unrecognizable with his hair and beard grown to a longer length compared to his signature look on NYPD Blue.

Additionally, the actor began his acting career in theater before switching over to television.

Early in his decades-long career, he was typecasted and often hired to play cop roles. And by his own count, his NYPD Blue role was his 28th police officer role.

Among them was when he worked with Bruce Willis in Die Hard 2, starring as airport police captain Carmine Lorenzo in the 1990 sequel.

Can you guess who he is?

He's Dennis Franz, and the famed actor was spotted enjoying an al fresco lunch on the patio with his wife Joanie Zeck.

On Wednesday, September 9, Franz spotted after having lunch at Pierre LaFond & Co. in Montecito, California.

After grabbing a bite with his longtime wife and heading to their car, the actor appeared to go back into the eatery to pick up a snack for the road.

For their casual outing, the Hill Street Blues alum put on a casual display in a blue T-shirt paired with a red, plaid button-down and gray cargo shorts.

He wore a slim gold chain, a flashy watch and was sporting a longer, shaggier 'do.

He and his wife, who have been married for over three decades, wore coordinating looks for their excursion, as Joanie was also seen wearing a colorful button-down shirt with a red and blue plaid pattern.

She wore black pants, navy blue sneakers and completed her look with a pair of oversize sunglasses to shield her eyes from the sun.

He and his wife are currently selling their 7-bed, 9-bath mansion in Montecito and recently listed their 8,000-square foot mansion property for $16.5 million.
