Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page Is Returning to Netflix in What Could Be His Sexiest Role Yet
Regé-Jean Page may want to leave the ton for good.
Five years after he made headlines for exiting Bridgerton following one season, Regé shared a head-turning response to whether he’ll make a return to the series in the future.
“Listen, I don’t know if you’re on the internet, but a lot of people are saying we need you back on Bridgerton,” Leah Henry asked the British actor at the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards March 12. “Is there a chance you would ever return?”
To this, Regé replied, “You know it’s funny you say that because I’m not on the internet,” later adding that he’d have to take the interviewer’s “word for it” that fans want to see his character Simon Basset onscreen once again beside Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor.
After Leah tried once more, asking “Maybe we’ll see you again?” Regé replied, “Thank you very much,” before exiting the interview.
His comments come weeks after showrunner Jess Brownell revealed that the Netflix show has no plans to recast Regé or Phoebe in future seasons.
“We are not interested in recasting the characters,” she told Variety in an interview published Feb. 26. “I think it would feel like a disservice to everything Regé and Phoebe set up in season one, and all the beautiful work they put into those characters.”
In fact, the Inventing Anna producer insisted the door is open for Phoebe, 30, and Regé, 38, to reprise their roles in future seasons so long as the story warrants their return.

“We would love to potentially have them back at some point,” she continued, “but I think, logistically, we want to make sure we bring them back when we have something really meaty for them. And to have them come back to say a line at a funeral and just prove that they were there, it wouldn’t feel right for many reasons.”
Indeed, the onscreen couple was noticeably absent as Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) mourned the death of her husband John Stirling (Victor Alli) in season 4 of the show. But just because they weren’t visible, doesn’t mean the characters didn’t attend the fictional funeral.
“I think in my mind, the camera doesn’t capture everything,” Jess noted. “They’re hypothetically there; it’s television.”
