Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.

For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things BoschMission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.

He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.

His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

Alan Ritchson has been on the kind of run where every new project instantly gets clocked by action fans, and Runner feels very much built to keep that momentum going. It has the kind of setup that basically sells itself in one sentence: a brutal time limit, a dangerous delivery, and enemies closing in from every direction. That already would’ve been enough to get attention, but throwing Owen Wilson into the mix gives the whole thing a slightly more unexpected edge. Now the first teaser has finally dropped, and it’s putting that race-against-the-clock hook front and center.

A former soldier is thrown into a brutal race against time when a critical medical delivery makes him the target of a ruthless cartel. With betrayal closing in from every side, he must survive the chase and deliver his cargo before an innocent child runs out of time.

Waugh summed up the movie by saying, “Partnering with Angel is a game-changer, because Runner is the kind of theatrical film audiences have been waiting for – big action, real heart, and a story that brings light into this world. When everything’s on the line to save a life, real men don’t run from the fire; they drive straight into it.”

Who Stars in 'Runner'?

The cast is stacked around Ritchson and Wilson too. Alongside them, the film stars Rodrigo Santoro, Leila George, Kate Box, Peta Sergeant, Geraldine Hakewill, Cecilia Toussaint, and Scarlett Crabtree. For Ritchson, Runner looks like another very on-brand swing: muscular, high-concept, and built around endurance under pressure. But the "medic on a bike" angle is a nice twist — a genuine race against time, while doing what he can to save his own life, and someone else's.

Runner releases in theatres on September 11.
