Despite only being a few months in, 2026 has already been a major year for Nintendo fans thanks to some recent additions to beloved franchises. From the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to exciting games like Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream and Pokémon Pokopia, the only thing that could make it better is if the recent rumors surrounding upcoming Nintendo projects turned out to be true.
Unfortunately, while Nintendo has been dropping its own leaks ahead of the competition with projects like Mario Galaxy Movie's surprise cameos, a recent rumor circulated by GlobalBoxOffice could be terrible news for anyone looking forward to any of the exciting projects that have been leaked over the past few months.
Nintendo Is Intentionally Leaking False Information
According to GlobalBoxOffice's source, NintyPrime, Nintendo has supposedly been intentionally spreading fake rumors within the company to catch leakers. You can view the full post above. Although some fans have been quick to describe it as a "genius level" move, plenty of others are distraught over the idea that the incredibly popular projects were only being created as bait.
Given that both the past weeks and even the past few days have seen a significant spike in leaks for projects like a new Star Fox game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, and what could have been the title or release date for the next 3D Mario game. It isn't just games being affected by the rumor either, as several leaks for follow-up films like Luigi's Mansion could also be entirely fabricated.
Even if it is a pretty smart move on Nintendo's part, fans haven't been shy at expressing outrage over the idea that Nintendo would "spread misinformation about fake games we know our players want to see", especially given how many fans think all the recently leaked concept "sounds really cool."
That Doesn't Mean Everything We've Heard Is Fake
While it's always a disappointment to hear about a canceled or entirely nonexistent Nintendo game that we would have loved to see become a reality, the most concerning news easily comes from how the rumor could affect the supposed Ocarina of Time remake. Being one of Nintendo's most critically acclaimed games to this day, it's no wonder so many fans feel betrayed that it could have all been fake.
Several fans have even gone as far as to say that without an OOT remake, "there's no reason for me to ever buy a Switch 2", while others still have hope that it could still be true, given how long we've been hearing about it at this point.
Thankfully, aside from the fact that nobody from Nintendo has confirmed they're intentionally circulating false information, other Nintendo releases have added more credibility for OOT's leaks, still offering some hope that at least one of Nintendo's upcoming rumored projects could still pull through in the end.
