Prime Video's The Legend of Vox Machina is one of its very best TV shows. This is really saying something, since the Amazon streamer has put out some truly exceptional projects. Just recently, we got Guy Ritchie's Young Sherlock, which is trending across the globe and is receiving an overwhelmingly positive reception. This follows up other Prime Video hits like The Boys, The Expanse, Bosch, Reacher, and Good Omens. Overall, the platform has a pretty great TV streaming record, but an argument could be made that The Legend of Vox Machina comes in above the bulk of them.

While it might initially seem that The Legend of Vox Machina would have a rather niche audience, the series quickly broke into the mainstream. With excellent viewership and critical reception, the fantasy series was quickly renewed by Prime Video, and season 2 arrived in 2023. Before this installment even had a chance to premiere, however, Amazon gave the greenlight for a third season - then a fourth. Now, as we wait for The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 to premiere on June 3, 2026, a fifth and final season has been confirmed.

Success has been smooth and easy for this D&D show, and that's not something that would typically be expected of an animated series. Then there is the fact that Amazon has really struggled with its high-fantasy projects (looking at Rings of Power and The Wheel of Time). The Legend of Vox Machina has unlocked the winning formula, and it's something Prime Video should try not to ever forget.

Why The Legend Of Vox Machina Is One Of Prime Video's Best Shows

The Legend of Vox Machina is one of the very few TV shows with a 100% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This means there hasn't been a single authority critic across all three seasons of this fantasy series who has given an unfavorable review. This is a nearly impossible feat, but there's just something about The Legend of Vox Machina that pulls people on board, even if this type of project isn't exactly their style.

While watching fantasy can be an arduous endeavor, The Legend of Vox Machina makes itself extremely accessible to the casual viewer. There's plenty of delicious lore to be had, but it doesn't demand a length of knowledge to enjoy. Then, the series boasts excellently written and timed comedy. This is a TV-MA-rated series, so the laughs are raunchy, silly, and scandalous. Still, this is balanced out with high-stakes action, emotional character arcs, and shockingly heartwarming fun. Suffice it to say, The Legend of Vox Machina is expertly written.

Then, there is the animation. This can be a hold-up for those who are more comfortable or familiar with live action. However, The Legend of Vox Machina is a wonderful example of how the fantasy genre is enhanced by animation. Bringing the fantastical to the screen is expensive, so live-action fantasy shows often have to make compromises for the sake of spectacle. Animated shows like The Legend of Vox Machina are comparatively limitless. It's a spectacular demonstration of visual worldbuilding and thrilling animated action and combat.

The Legend Of Vox Machina Is Already Having Wider Franchise Success

After three seasons of success, there can really be no claim that The Legend of Vox Machina got lucky. This show managed to please not just Critical Role or Dungeons & Dragons fans, but a league of viewers who found themselves along for the ride. It's for this reason that Prime Video was quick to greenlight The Legend of Vox Machina's first spinoff series, which has already brought the franchise further success.

The Mighty Nein, based on Critical Role's campaign two, premiered in November 2025 and has once again secured a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Praise around this project is much the same as for its predecessor—there's great animation, exceptional storytelling, and easily lovable characters. If Prime Video had any doubt that The Legend of Vox Machina is among its most valuable TV shows, the expansion of a just-as-successful franchise ought to make it crystal clear.
