One of the most highly anticipated releases on Prime Video this winter is just days away, making this series a must-binge ahead of its long-awaited return. This 8-part series is the ideal length to binge-watch in just a few sessions, or even one day.
Prime Video has found massive success with its crime thriller content based on a celebrated book series. Shows like Bosch and Reacher have proven to be enormous trending hits for the streaming service, which sets this dark psychological thriller up perfectly to follow suit.
Cross Season 2 Hits Prime Video Next Week – What It's About
Cross season 2 will premiere next Wednesday, February 11, with three brand new episodes, making now the perfect time to binge-watch the first season on Prime Video. Starring Aldis Hodge as the titular protagonist Alex Cross, a brilliant yet complicated detective, Cross debuted in 2024 to mostly positive reviews but not universal acclaim, as did Reacher and Bosch before it.
While Cross faces stiff competition in the inevitable shadow of both Reacher and Bosch, both of which have sustained near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes scores throughout their multiple seasons, it's next to impossible not to compare the three series. Cross is very much set up to be a replacement series for these massive action crime hits, which have gone on to produce female-led spinoffs of their own.
Since Cross has dozens of books to act as source material for the TV series, it is really in Amazon's best interests to make Cross another hit like Bosch and Reacher. Cross season 1 was not unwatchable by any means, earning a 76% Rotten Tomatoes score, but it was a notable step down from its predecessors, at least from a critical perspective.
Cross Season 2 Will Determine If It's A True Bosch Replacement
One notable complaint among Cross season 1 viewers was that the series itself was too dark – not in terms of its content, but its actual cinematography, which is unusual for a modern streaming series. Certainly, that will be an easy fix for Cross season 2, so that viewers can move past that distracting visual element and get hooked on the story.
It is unfortunate that Cross season 1 had this technical glitch because, underneath its cover of darkness, it is a full-bodied and led by a breakout star performance by Aldis Hodge. There truly is additional pressure on Cross season 2 to be a vast improvement on its first season, as season 3 has not yet been confirmed, which provides additional stakes for next week's must-binge 3-part premiere on Prime Video.
