After airing in its native Canada throughout January, the hit crime procedural Wild Cards returned to the U.S. just over two weeks ago to great acclaim. Directed by Andy Mikita and written by showrunner Michael Konyves, the premiere episode of Season 3, "Rack 'Em Up," continued where the previous season left off, with the synopsis reading, "Max and Ellis go undercover to catch a pool shark's killer; Max's mom, Vivienne, is miraculously back from the grave, and she's brought back a vengeful crime lord in pursuit of her, which puts them all in the crosshairs."

By-the-book detective Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti) and con woman Max (Vanessa Morgan) are perhaps the most underrated leading duo on television today, with critics consistently praising the pair's chemistry. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the series boasts a perfect 100% score from critics, with audiences delivering a strong 86% rating. "This season could be the best of the show," one user wrote about the third season, adding, "A possible bright future is ahead."

This high praise for Season 3 has led to streaming success for Wild Cards. At the time of writing, the series has returned to the Prime Video streaming charts in the U.S., finishing ninth in the current top ten. The Walton Goggins and Ella Purnell-led Fallout, of course, continues its long run at the top of the charts, with the high-stakes thriller Steal, starring future Tomb Raider headliner Sophie Turner, staying steady in second place.

What Is Next in 'Wild Cards'?

In the most recent second episode, "Quit Playing Games (With My Life)," Max and Ellis were faced with another murder case to solve, this time in the middle of Max's favorite '90s boy band's reunion tour. Another brilliantly entertaining entry into this gem of a crime procedural, there is no reason to suspect the next outing, directed by Amanda Tapping and written by Marcus Robinson, will be anything less than unmissable. A synopsis for Episode 3, "M.D.-CEASED," reads:

"Max and Ellis investigate the case of an ER's top doctor who's found stabbed, leading them through a maze of medical rivalries, angry patients, and a killer hiding in plain sight."

Wild Cards returns to the U.S. on February 16, 2026, following a week-long break after Episode 2. The third season boasts just four episodes, with the finale air date yet to be confirmed. For all the latest streaming stories, make sure to stay tuned to Collider.
