PlayStation Plus Games Announced For January & Subscribers Aren't Happy

PlayStation Plus has revealed its three free games for the month of January 2025, and fans aren't happy with their haul. Each month, Sony's online gaming subscription service grants its members a handful of games that are free to keep for as long as they remain subscribed. These usually aren't massive day-one releases - they're often indie games, older titles that are about to get sequels, or must-have PlayStation classics. This month's games, though, apparently leave a lot to be desired, and players on social media are making their disappointment known.

According to the official PlayStation X (formerly Twitter) page, the PS Plus free games for January 2025 are Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, The Stanlet Parable: Ultra Deluxe, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. While there's nothing necessarily wrong with the former two games, many players take issue with the latter, since Suicide Squad will stop releasing new content after the conclusion of its current season this month.

This has led to an overwhelmingly negative reaction from players on social media, many of whom are operating under the assumption that Suicide Squad is shutting off its servers this month. The servers aren't actually going offline; it's just new content updates that are coming to a stop, while the game itself will remain available in both single and multiplayer modes for the foreseeable future. Still, players have every right to criticize, especially considering the game's poor reviews, and the fact that it's already on deep discount at multiple retail stores and other online platforms.

PlayStation Plus is a subscription service from Sony that gives players access to additional PlayStation features for subscribers, such as full online game access, free games, and exclusive discounts. The program was initially released in 2010 with the PlayStation 3 and since has grown to be a larger platform for the brand, allowing Sony to extend the service to include game streaming via console or apps from different providers.
