Warner Bros. and DC have unveiled the first teaser from their body horror flick Clayface, only for those in the room at CinemaCon.
In the trailer, we see a creature lying disfigured in the hospital, with red eyes. This is clearly a version of our lead character played by Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries, whom we cut to in various stages of mutilation, pre- and post- some kind of traumatic event.
Elsewhere, we see the character wearing a mask, seemingly molting, and with a face he can distort like putty.
Clayface, directed by James Watkins, marks the next big swing for DC Studios after Supergirl hits theaters June 26. The pic was originally set to hit theaters in early September but as of now has a release date of October 23.
Appearing to introduce the film, DC Chief Peter Safran called the character someone who’s “not famous yet” but will be once the “riveting horror thriller” hits theaters just in time for Halloween.
The DC character Clayface was first introduced in the comics in 1940 as an actor who adopted the identity of a character he played in a horror movie when he turned to crime. There have been several incarnations since, all with shapeshifting powers that transform their drippy clay body structures; all have been adversaries of Batman.
Starring alongside Harries is Naomi Ackie, with David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan also in the cast.
Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini penned the script for the pic, which is being produced by The Batman writer-director Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, and DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran. Executive producers are Michael E. Uslan, Chantal Nong Vo, Lars P. Winther, Rafi Crohn and Paul Richie.
