Penny Lancaster has revealed how she and 'really attractive' husband Rod Stewart keep their spark alive after 28 years together.

The couple met in 1999 and went on to have their first son, Alastair, 20, in 2005, before marrying in 2007, and welcoming their second son, Aiden, 15, in 2011.

Penny couldn't help but fangirl over her 'handsome' husband during Thursday's Loose Women as she admitted they 'really yearn to be with one another'.

Asked by host Kaye Adams if she still fancies Rod, Penny gushed: 'Oh absolutely. Last night we had friends over for dinner and he just pulled this outfit together like only Rod does and I was like, "Darling, you look good".

'There's sometimes when his hair's extra spikey and his got a bit of leather on and I'm like "That's Rod Stewart!"

'And then there's other times when he looks classier, he changes his vibe but he is always making the effort and that really attracts me to him.

'Rod and I are lucky to have this relationship where we in a sense we spend a lot of time apart which makes us really yearn to be with one another when we do see each other so we make the most of those moments.'

She added: 'I think it's important to make an effort at all times. You need to focus on yourself because if you don't feel good about yourself then your sparks not there and they don't recognise you as the women you fell in love with.

'Both people have got to make the effort and not take it for granted.'

Penny also admitted she and Rod avoid arguing or getting into a confrontation when they have had an alcoholic beverage.

She shared: 'We're really good at communicating. Rod and I always have a pact about flushing things out, not holding onto things and being honest and that helps grow trust.

'We also agree that we shouldn't row if we've had a drink or two because things are said that you don't really mean.

'If something is said late at night there is a quiet space and generally there might be a little text of an apology, which I really admire about Rod.

'I'm not saying he's the one that only apologises but he has always said how importance it is to recognise when you need to say sorry and then a conversation can follow.'

They originally met at a party at the Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair when Penny was studying photography at Barking College in Essex (pictured in 2002)

Gushing over her husband's youthful energy and what attracted her to him in the first place, she added: 'It was this veracious energy that he still has at 81.

'He's still looking at the tour next year, he's recording new music and just his work ethic or him going into the gym three times a week.

'It's inspiring and for our kids as well to look up to and admire.'

Rod is also the father to six children with four other women. His eldest child, Sarah, was born to his first serious girlfriend Susannah Boffey.

He was just 17 when she was adopted in 1963, and she did not know she had a famous birth father until her adoptive parents revealed his identity when she turned 18. Father and daughter went on to build a relationship when Sarah was in her 40s.

He then had daughter Kimberly, 47, and son Sean, 46, with his ex-wife Alana Stewart and a daughter Ruby, 39, with his ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg.

The Faces frontman had another two children, Renee, 34, and Liam, 32, with his ex-wife, model Rachel Hunter.

Discussing how they first met, Penny revealed it wasn't until nine months after exchanging numbers that Rod reached out to her.

They originally met at a party at the Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair when Penny was studying photography at Barking College in Essex. They struck up a conversation and the singer asked her for her telephone number, which he gave to his bass player, Carmine Appice, for safekeeping.

Still broken by his divorcé from his second wife Rachel, his best pal decided that Rod wasn't ready to meet the love of his life yet, so he withheld Penny's number from the musician until he was in a better place.

Recalling the story in a joint interview, Rod explained: 'He was an absolute gentleman, he was band leader and bass player, and he kept her telephone [number] away from me.

'He didn't think I was in the right position because I had just got a divorce and didn't know if I was coming or going, and he said I will give it to you when I think you are ready.'

Rod joked: 'I should of fired him, but I couldn't!'
