After almost two full years of waiting, Starz finally delivered the eighth and final season of Outlander last week. The first episode of Season 8 aired last Friday, and new episodes are set to be released every Friday until the show comes to a head on May 8. The eighth season currently holds a 100% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but this comes from only eight reviews, so it is subject to change as more scores coming pouring in throughout the season. The hit fantasy series stars Caitríona Balfe as Claire opposite Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, and it follows a nurse from WWII who mysteriously teleports back in time to Scotland in 1743.
While critics are hot on the newest season of Outlander, audiences are already outraged by a Season 8 storyline that doesn’t match up to the book. The Outlander Season 8 premiere makes it clear that both Claire and Jamie believe that Faith, their first child who was stillborn in Season 2, Episode 7, is indeed still alive. They don’t make it expressly clear how or why, but the duo is convinced that Fanny is their biological granddaughter. This storyline was set up at the end of Season 7, but it’s clear that the creatives are diving in head first in Season 8.
Fans have not been shy about expressing their disappointment with this story on social media, with many citing that there’s no way this is possible. Claire went into labor with Faith prematurely, and during this period of the 1700s, medical advancements were not in a place to save the baby. Some fans are speculating that it will be explained by revealing that she was never actually stillborn, or through the use of magic. Viewers are still debating which would be worse.
What Time Do New Episodes of ‘Outlander’ Come Out?
New episodes of Outlander are released every Friday at 12 pm EST. For most fans, this means that whenever you wake up Friday morning, you can sit down and immediately watch the episode, or turn it on before even getting out of bed. Many fans prefer this to being forced to wait until late at night. It also still allows the community to discuss things week by week without the fear of being spoiled just from going to bed early.
Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the final season of Outlander and check out new episodes on Starz.
