Following Netflix's acquisition of Warner Bros. in an $87.2 billion deal last December, the future was left uncertain for some of Warner Bros. top franchises, including Hogwarts Legacy, which it published back in 2023. However, a recent report by WB Games CEO JB Perrette spells good news for the Harry Potter inspired RPG, giving us an idea of when we can expect the highly anticipated sequel to launch.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 In 2028?
At the time of writing, it has been confirmed that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is currently in the early stages of development. However, a release window has not yet been revealed. However, according to Perrette, "2025 was a year of reset" when it came to Warner Bros. Games division. In an interview with Variety, the CEO claimed that the gaming division got “distracted going after too many IPs with too broad a set of studios," and as such, this year's aim to work on a “Lego Batman” game and a “Game of Thrones”-themed mobile game dubbed “Dragon Fire" will put them back on track.
Not only that, but this also spells good news for the Hogwarts Legacy franchise. "The real fruits will start coming in in ’27-’28 when we return to some of our biggest franchises,” Perrette explained, and although he did not list any titles, it is safe to assume that one such example will be the Hogwarts Legacy sequel, as the first game became the best-selling video game of 2023, making it a very lucrative franchise for Warner Bros. Games.
Hogwarts Legacy Fans Are Keen For The Sequel
A 2027/2028 launch also makes sense considering previous reports that Warner Bros. Games plans to release Hogwarts Legacy 2 alongside the launch of HBO's Harry Potter television adaptation, which is set to air some time in 2027. Despite the two storylines taking place a century apart, its creators have plans to tie them together in some capacity, and if this report is correct, this could happen as early as 2027. Following the update by WB Games CEO JB Perrette, fans took to r/HarryPotterGame to share their thoughts.
"They'll 100% use the show to boost the game sales, so if we get an early 2027 release date for Hogwarts Legacy 2, we could see a trailer in the summer," one user suggested. Another added, "Remember Hogwarts Legacy was practically faultless. If I remember on release, they will want that to carry over to number two." With another hoping that time will "fast-forward", it is safe to say that fans are excited about the future of the Hogwarts Legacy franchise, and hopefully, it will launch as early as 2027/2028.
