‘Off Campus’ Launches As Top 3 Prime Video Debut Season With 36M Viewers In 12 Days

Prime Video has found its next coming-of-age hit. The streamer’s new college-set romantic drama Off Campus has logged 36 million viewers worldwide in the first 12 days of release, including two full weekends, per Amazon.

That ranks as Prime Video’s the No. 3 most-viewed debut season ever behind Season 1 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout. It is unclear whether these are average viewers and how the comparison was made since Off Campus and Fallout‘s eight-episode first seasons were released as drops while The Rings of Power‘s eight-episode opening season was a weekly release after a two-episode premiere.

Not surprisingly, Off Campus, based on Elle Kennedy’s book series, is performing best with young women. Among Women 18-34, Season 1 is Prime Video’s most-viewed series debut season of all-time, per Amazon.

Created by Louisa Levy, Off Campus follows an elite ice hockey team, and the women in their lives, as they grapple with love, heartbreak, and self-discovery — forging deep friendships and enduring bonds while navigating the complexities that come with transitioning into adulthood.

The series has been able to capitalize on both Prime Video’s strong YA momentum created by mega hit The Summer I Turned Pretty and other popular titles such as the Culpables movie franchise and series We Were Liars and Maxton Hall as well as the massive success of the Crave/HBO Max hockey romantic drama Heated Rivalry.

Off Campus, which premiered May 13, kicked off a Prime Video’s summer slate of YA originals branded as Obsession Is In Session. In anticipation of its strong debut, the series was given an early Season 2 renewal in February. Filming on the new season is expected to begin shortly.

“Obsession is officially in session at Prime Video, thanks to the fans who have embraced Off Campus,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global TV at Amazon MGM Studios. “We couldn’t be happier to see such a passionate community come together around Season 1 of creator Louisa Levy and co-showrunner Gina Fattore’s interpretation of Elle Kennedy’s beloved story. When you earn trust and deliver for an audience, they show up — and they’ve certainly done so for Off Campus.”

The February Off Campus pickup was one of the first major renewal decisions made by Friedlander after he joined Amazon last fall. The series was originally developed and greenlighted by the studio’s previous regime. Nick Pepper, who exited as Head of US SVOD TV Development and Series – Wholly Owned in a restructuring in late January, just days before the renewal, had championed the show for more than two years and was high on it ahead of its formal series order in October 2024.

Season 1 of Off Campus follows the sexy and fun “opposites attract” romance between quiet songwriter, Hannah (Ella Bright), and Briar University’s all-star hockey athlete, Garrett (Belmont Cameli).

Levy co-showruns and executive produces the series with Gina Fattore. Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and James Seidman executive produce for Temple Hill. Leanna Billings of Billings Productions and Neal Flaherty also serve as executive producers.
