Nicole Kidman has sparked a lively discussion among fans after ditching her heels during an afterparty at Pier One to celebrate the first-ever Chanel show in Sydney.

The Hollywood actress, 59, embraced a more relaxed approach to the glamorous occasion, with her barefoot appearance becoming a talking point on social media.

Footage from the festivities showed Nicole standing alongside Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann, wearing a cropped black tuxedo blazer over a white tank top.

But while the Oscar winner's tailored ensemble delivered plenty of polish, it was her decision to kick off her shoes that caught some viewers' attention.

'Who walks barefoot in the 21st century??' one person asked.

Others were quick to defend Nicole, suggesting she was simply enjoying herself after a long day of fashion festivities.

One commenter described the scene as a relaxed afterparty atmosphere, while another cheekily suggested Nicole had removed her heels to avoid towering over Baz.

'Nicole definitely an Aussie no shoes!!!!!!!!lol,' another wrote.

A third added: 'Love a barefoot Nicole.'

Nicole had arrived in black pumps for Thursday's Chanel 2026/27 Cruise Collection presentation at The Cutaway in Barangaroo, where she was joined by her daughter Faith Kidman Urban.

The actress teamed her cropped blazer with black trousers, adding round sunglasses and a structured Chanel lunchbox-style handbag.

She wore her strawberry blonde hair straight and loose, completing the look with rosy blush and pink lipstick.

Faith, 15, coordinated with her famous mother in a white Chanel set comprising a cropped blazer and mini skirt.

The teenager accessorised with cream strappy heels and a brown leather handbag from the French fashion house.

Nicole's sister Antonia Kidman also attended, making the coveted fashion event a family affair.

Antonia opted for an all-black outfit, pairing a dress shirt with tailored trousers, Chanel loafers and a quilted shoulder bag.

Hollywood and high fashion descended on Sydney's CBD for the occasion, with Margot Robbie and Kylie Minogue also among the guests at Chanel's first Australian runway show.

The Sydney presentation brought Chanel's Cruise 2026/27 collection to Australia after its initial unveiling in the French seaside town of Biarritz in April.
