An impressive Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time "remake" has become even more astonishing in a recent update. This Legend of Zelda fan project, which is arguably more of a remake than a remaster in terms of its fidelity and visuals, reimagines The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5.7.
As per CryZENx’s Patreon, the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time fan project update features a playable Princess Ruto, whom players can explore Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly with. This signals another fantastic milestone for the Unreal Engine 5.7 ‘remake,’ which is evolving quickly.
You’ve Seen This Ocarina Of Time Remake Before
This update is great, but it’s only the latest in a long history of unofficial development for a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on Unreal Engine 5. For instance, previous demos have been released for it in the past, representing various areas that have been ‘remade.’
This newest demo is locked at 30FPS, with an Inside Jabu-Jabu demo at 60FPS locked behind CryZENx’s Patreon paywall, along with other areas such as Lake Hylia and Zora’s Domain. For Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s Inside Jabu-Jabu, in particular, CryZENx wished to “keep the iconic atmosphere while refining the gameplay loops that felt clunky in the original.”
The Progress Is Astounding
Remakes are a dime a dozen nowadays. Still, they are no less exciting when they reinterpret classic games through a contemporary lens. Of all games, the Legend of Zelda franchise is full of timeless entries that will long outlive their console generations due to their distinct art style, an advantage it has that photorealistic games lack.
Indeed, this is not a simple ‘remaster’ with visuals being the sole focus. The redesigned aesthetic for the dungeon, for example, was “polished for better visual clarity.” Meanwhile, enemy hitboxes have been adjusted, and combat spawn rates have been improved.
This means players’ experiences with this dungeon may be a bit less familiar than they might’ve anticipated, yet the idea is that this Unreal Engine 5.7 ‘remake’ flattens out any jagged edges that the original game may have had. There are bound to be a ton of quality-of-life improvements throughout all of CryZENx’s forays into Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
This new update with the Lord Jabu-Jabu dungeon is phenomenal, showcasing significant visual depth and intuitive gameplay redesigns for the modern era. Anyone who’s been desperate for a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake should look no further than CryZENx’s remake, and it will be exciting to see how it continues to develop with more areas and features introduced in the future.
