New Spider-Man Game Tease Could Be For Multiple Projects

Jared is a writer, editor, and Communications Studies graduate who loves popular nerd culture (almost anything to do with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings) and the interactive storytelling medium. Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot.

If it was not for the data breach Insomniac endured, Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 would not seem to be so incredibly far away. But with Marvel’s Wolverine, as well as the possibility of a leaked Venom half-sequel game being real, it is unknown how long people will be waiting for a third mainline Marvel’s Spider-Man game. Thanks to none other than Peter Parker himself, though, we may be seeing the wall-crawler a lot sooner than expected.

A recent tease from Peter Parker face model Ben Jordan on Instagram, captioned “IYKYK” with a spider emoji, has explicitly revealed that some semblance of production is either beginning or ongoing regarding Insomniac’s iteration of the character. Whether or not this suggests that Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is entering production, however, is anyone’s guess, and there are plenty of games that Spider-Man could appear in instead.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man Is Back, But Where Will He Appear Next?

Besides Marvel’s Wolverine being official and Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 being inevitable, it's virtually impossible to predict what Insomniac’s future slate will look like. The potential for Insomniac to develop an X-Men ensemble game may depend fully on how Marvel’s Wolverine performs, for example. It would seem quite odd for Insomniac to release a Venom half-sequel more than three years after the launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, unless its release is being deliberately held in order to behave as a way to tide players over until Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.

Either way, Insomniac probably has a lot to consider concerning what games it pursues and when after Marvel’s Wolverine, and we do know now that the studio is hiring for multiple positions. If Ben Jordan’s tease is any clue as to what could immediately follow, there are only so many options (and Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is not necessarily the only possibility).

Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 Is The Likeliest Option

Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is effectively guaranteed, though not officially announced or revealed, with an abundance of storylines to give closure to from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. So, with Ben Jordan’s tease being for something Spider-Man-related, the natural conclusion to make is that Insomniac is beginning production on Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.

Marvel’s Wolverine’s release date is only five months away, with a gameplay reveal supposedly imminent as Insomniac recently doubled down on more details being shared in “Spring 2026.” Therefore, it might not be all that surprising if development on Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is underway with performers and capture work.

Seeing how Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s story ends, it is a little bit of a shock that Peter will be playing a big role in the threequel. He was apparently happy to take the bench and work on the Emily-May Foundation from his garage in Queens while Miles Morales assumes the role as New York City’s sole Spider-Man, but Peter is basically inseparable from the narrative at this point.

It is almost a certainty that we will see Green Goblin in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, and for Peter to be written out of the story before this villain’s debut would be absurd. Of course, Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 being the likeliest option for what Ben Jordan’s tease could allude to does not mean it is the only thing he could be contributing his Peter Parker likeness to.

A Cameo In Wolverine Or Venom Is On The Table

With Marvel’s Wolverine officially being set in the same universe as Marvel’s Spider-Man, a Spider-Man cameo in Marvel’s Wolverine would not be out of the realm of possibility. This would also be fairly momentous timing if the Wolverine game features Spider-Man in a post-launch, story-related DLC.

Insomniac has been tremendously creative with its Marvel Easter eggs and references throughout the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, going as far as to feature a note to Miles from Wong. A fully fledged Spider-Man cameo in Marvel’s Wolverine would firmly establish how connected these games truly are.

If Ben Jordan’s tease is actually implying that Spider-Man will have a cameo in Insomniac’s Wolverine game, we would be seeing Peter’s unmasked face here—hence the model’s face being captured. This could amount to a minor appearance, such as how Peter briefly shows up in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, or a tiny cameo, but he may be unmasked before Wolverine or other X-Men.

Otherwise, it would be terrific to see Peter have a supporting role in Insomniac’s Venom game, if one is indeed in development. The Venom game would be an enormous boon for Insomniac, too, as it could knot every loose end that was left dangling by the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in terms of symbiotes and teases of Knull/Klyntar.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 poured a lot of symbiote-related lore into its third act invasion once Venom eats Kraven’s head, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 could be juggling way too much on its own if it must acknowledge and develop storylines for symbiotes, Green Goblin, Chameleon, and more. If Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is also intended to be the final game in the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise—with trilogies being the default storytelling structure, anyway—it could leave a sour taste in players’ mouths if not everything is given proper closure.

As such, Peter’s role in a Venom game would be pivotal: he could be there to finally give Harry the Anti-Venom symbiote, curing him once and for all of his malady, and aid Yuri Watanabe’s Wraith and Harry in defeating Cletus Kasady—“the Flame,” as he is referred to—when Cletus eventually dons the red symbiote sample he stole from Oscorp and becomes Carnage.

Venom versus Carnage would be the most logical outcome as a heavyweight, final boss bout in a Venom game based on the popularity of their pairing, but it would be disappointing if the cliffhanger in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Carnage side quest was abandoned, with Yuri and Peter not playing a role in the battle. Since this subplot involves Peter and Yuri’s tumultuous relationship, it would be a great excuse to feature Spider-Man in the half-sequel, before he is featured later on in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.
