It can be tricky keeping track of which movies release each week, especially with the holiday season ushering in a tidal wave of awards films and four-quadrant blockbusters. With a few big titles still left for the year, check out what is coming to theaters in December.
After no major blockbuster releases last weekend left “Moana 2,” “Gladiator II” and “Wicked” at the top of the charts, the upcoming releases of “Kraven the Hunter” and the animated “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” are hoping to catch the interest of audiences around the world.
“Kraven the Hunter” is a superhero film based on the character (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) from the Marvel Comics and his path of revenge against his father (Russell Crowe). “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” is an animated prequel set 183 years before the original Peter Jackson trilogy, following the story of the House of Helm Hammerhead.
For moviegoers looking to get a scoop on some of the biggest awards films this year, both “Nickel Boys” and “September 5” are opening in limited release this weekend. “Nickel Boys,” directed by RaMell Ross, follows two young Black boys as they form an unbreakable bond over the years at the abusive Nickel Academy while “September 5,” directed by Tim Fehlbaum, follows the hostage crisis during the 1972 Munich Olympics.
Check back each week to find the latest releases in theaters, from major wide releases to niche independent titles.
