Minka Kelly's ex Dan Reynolds emerges looking heartbroken in public following the couple's shock split

Minka Kelly's ex Dan Reynolds emerged looking heartbroken during an outing in Los Angeles on Thursday, just one day after news of the former couple's shock split came to light. 

The 39-year-old Imagine Dragons frontman grabbed an iced coffee from Maru Cafe in the Los Feliz neighborhood of L.A. 

The Radioactive hitmaker kept it casual wearing a plain white shirt as well as a pair of green trousers. 

Reynolds additionally slipped into a pair of dark navy sneakers and sported a blue Dodgers cap on top of his head. 

The music artist appeared to hold a downcast expression on his face as he exited the cafe while heading to his next destination. 

Daily Mail has reached out to a rep of Reynolds for comment, but has yet to hear back. 

It was revealed on Wednesday that Reynolds and Kelly split after nearly four years together, according to People. 

The two stars had made their red carpet debut five months earlier in May. 

The pair had been romantically linked since their first sighting together on November 26, 2022 at Cafe Stella in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. 

Reynolds legally separated from his wife Aja Volkman three months before he met Kelly through a mutual friend and they talked on the phone for a month before that first public outing together.

Reynolds and his ex welcomed four children, son Valentine, six, fraternal twin daughters Gia James and Coco Rae, nine, and daughter Arrow, 14, during their decade-long marriage and the divorce was finalized in 2024.

Kelly has previously been romantically linked to Trevor Noah, Jesse Williams, Josh Radnor, Sean Penn, Wilmer Valderrama, Derek Jeter, John Mayer, Chris Evans, Donald Faison and Taylor Kitsch.

The split comes at an interesting time as the now former couple hit their first red carpet together on May 30.

They had attended the annual MOCA Gala, which was held at the Geffen Contemporary in L.A. at the time.

Kelly dazzled in a cleavage-boosting orange sequin Roland Mouret dress and nude stilettos.

Reynolds, meanwhile, opted for a black crewneck top beneath a khaki Jacquemus suit.

The first public event where the two were in attendance together was Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024.

They went on to step out to other sporting events including UFC 303 in June 2024.

In July 2024, Reynolds went on to finally confirm the romance when he discussed how they grew close through their love of creative writing.

Kelly also shared a birthday tribute to Reynolds around that time as she described how he brought healing and embodied true vulnerability.

The nepo baby of former Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay visibly bristled when asked about her relationship with Reynolds on the November 18, 2025 episode of TODAY with Jenna & Friends.

'I feel very lucky, he's a really good guy,' Kelly offered. 'He's the best.'

Reynolds had previously spoken out about his relationship with Kelly in rare comments. 

Back in 2024, the singer recalled being connected to Kelly through a mutual friend during an interview with People at the time.

'After about a month we met in person, and ever since then, we've been attached at the hip. Minka and I are in a really happy, healthy relationship,' he expressed to the outlet.

Reynolds had also discussed Kelly's bond with his children.

'The kids really love Minka and really love their mom, and that's okay. We view it as kind of bonuses to the family: more people to love, more people to help.' 

Last year, the Bones hitmaker filmed a cameo as the character Billy Brinks in episode nine of Kelly's Netflix series, Ransom Canyon.

Reynolds and his pop rock band, featuring guitarist Wayne Sermon and bassist Ben McKee, are next scheduled to perform in Abu Dhabi on December 5.
