Miley Cyrus Transforms into ‘Hannah Montana’ in 20th Anniversary Special First Look
Sweet niblets! Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus are back in Malibu.
Ahead of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special hitting Disney+ March 24, a new trailer shows Miley in her iconic blonde wig once more as she revisits the iconic TV show’s set alongside her dad and mom Tish Cyrus.
“Already getting emotional,” Miley, dressed like her character Miley Stewart’s titular popstar alter ego, says in the new trailer released March 10. “Wow.”
In a supercut of clips from the upcoming special, Miley explored the reimagined set alongside mom and, in another clip, booty bumps her dad, whose everyday look is just as reminiscent to his signature Robby Ray Stewart style.
Hannah Montana fans will recognize the booty bump as part of Miley and Robby’s father-daughter handshake from the series, as Billy Ray wrote in his own March 10 Instagram post alongside the trailer, “20 years later and @mileycyrus still knows the old handshake trick.”
The infamous handshake dates back to Miley’s final audition for the Disney series, when she was screen testing with potential actors to play her on-screen father.
“After I had been cast, it was time for them to bring in the dads to audition,” Miley recalled in a 2023 TikTok series. “The casting agent had said, ‘Your dad is so cute, it would be amazing if he could actually play your dad on the show.’”
While Miley explained her dad was working on a show in Toronto at the time, her mom Tish worked her magic and got him to fly to California for an audition.
As she recalled, showing off an old tape of her and her dad, “Here’s a video of us doing our handshake.”

Over the years, Miley has been open about how working with her father wasn’t always easy for her or her family, but shortly after getting cast in the series, the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer emphasized how proud he was to see his daughter shine.
"This is so much fun, you know, getting to work with my daughter," Billy Ray told CBS News in 2007. "As a daddy, to see my little girl go through this, to be part of it, to watch her grow you know not only as an actress but as a young adult—you know being in this part of her life has been one of the most rewarding events of my life.”
