Ryan O'Rourke is a Senior News Writer at Collider with a specific interest in all things adult animation, video game adaptations, and the work of Mike Flanagan. He is also an experienced baseball writer with over six years of articles between multiple outlets, most notably FanSided's CubbiesCrib. Whether it's taking in a baseball game, a new season of Futurama or Castlevania: Nocturne, or playing the latest From Software title, he is always finding ways to show his fandom. When it comes to gaming and anything that takes inspiration from it, he is deeply opinionated on what's going on. Outside of entertainment, he's a graduate of Eureka College with a Bachelor's in Communication where he honed his craft as a writer. Between The IV Leader at Illinois Valley Community College and The Pegasus at Eureka, he spent the majority of his college career publishing articles on everything from politics to campus happenings and, of course, entertainment for the student body. Those principles he learned covering the 2020 election, Palestine, and so much more are brought here to Collider, where he has gleefully written on everything from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes to Nathan Lane baby-birding sewer boys.

Prime Video has been enjoying a bit of a moment lately with its original programming. After starting the year off strong by wrapping up Season 2 of Fallout and debuting the heist thriller Steal, the streaming service has delivered not one, but four major premieres in March alone. On the dramatic end, audiences have been tuning into the new crime thriller series Scarpetta, starring Nicole Kidman, and Guy Ritchie's latest hit, Young Sherlock, both of which have been met with critical acclaim. Riz Ahmed's new comedy, Bait, also made an impression with its unique premise, following an actor who auditioned for the role of James Bond and invited chaos into his life. Yet, the biggest premiere of all may have been Season 4 of the platform's animated superhero darling, Invincible.

Robert Kirkman's blood-soaked series returned on March 18, picking up where things left off after Mark Grayson's (Steven Yeun) brutal fight with the Viltrumite Conquest (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). With the world still picking up the pieces after their battle and the invasion of other Invincibles led by Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown), Mark takes up a darker code, vowing to kill anyone who threatens his family and the greater good of Earth. So far, that's led to some complicated confrontations, like with Dinosaurus (Matthew Rhys) and especially the Sequids, led by their human host Rus Livingston (Ben Schwartz). He doesn't have much time to wrestle with the gravity of taking an innocent life or recover from an odd journey to Hell, either, after his father Nolan (J.K. Simmons) and his friend Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen) arrive to recruit him for war.

The long-awaited beginning of the Viltrumite War brought with it one of the best episodes of the series to date in this past week's Episode 5, "Give Us a Moment." It had an emotional payoff with Nolan finally speaking to — and being emotionally destroyed by — his wife Debbie (Sandra Oh), the proper introduction of Tech Jacket (Zoey Deutch), and a rematch with Conquest that somehow topped its predecessor in stomach-churning violence. Everything combined to make the second-highest rated episode of the series to date on IMDb at a score of 9.8, just behind the Season 3 finale. All the buzz also helped Invincible return to the top of Prime Video's charts this week, overtaking Scarpetta and Young Sherlock to rise to #1 globally. The series hit its peak on Friday, landing at the top spot in 38 countries.

'Invincible' Isn't Slowing Down Anytime Soon at Prime Video

Though the latest battle with Conquest ended on a note that would almost be appropriate for a season finale, there's still more to come from Invincible Season 4 as the Coalition prepares to go head-to-head with Thragg (Lee Pace) and his forces. The arrival of the Viltrumite warship and Conquest certainly put a damper on their plans, but they're likely to get right back in the fight once Mark recovers from his disemboweling. After those final episodes, it'll be time to start looking towards Season 5. Prime Video handed the series an early renewal last summer thanks to its consistent success, something that wouldn't be shocking to see happen again, given that Season 4 has again earned nothing but rave reviews and continues to draw fans in.

Invincible Season 4 has three new episodes left to air on Wednesdays on Prime Video. Stay tuned here at Collider for more on the hottest shows across streaming throughout the year.
