As May swoops in with sunshine and the start of summer, the gaming community is getting to enjoy a plethora of incredible new game releases, including 007 First Light, Forza Horizon 6, and even Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Not to mention several indie developer titles that have been making headlines lately, like Thrifty Business, Mixtape, and even Coffee Talk Tokyo.
Truly, it seems that almost every genre is seeing a quality release in the upcoming weeks, so no matter what your tastes, there's likely something of interest. Whether surviving the horrors of Directive 8020 or cheerfully helping in Bluey's Quest for the Gold Pen, this month is nothing if not varied. There's even a cozy-punk narrative sim called Wax Heads for those looking for something truly fun and quirky, and the return of the classic Bubsy platformers in Bubsy 4D.
The full list of every game releasing in May 2026 is provided in a table further down in this article. Note that, of course, all dates provided are subject to change as games are delayed or new announcements arrive.
James Bond Returns In 007 First Light
Hopefully, if you're one of the many fans looking forward to 007 First Light, you've been able to avoid the leaks of the ending so you can experience the story as it is meant to be enjoyed. After long being anticipated, James Bond is finally arriving in his Aston Martin for 007 First Light at the end of the month, on May 27.
The game shows James Bond as a young recruit who has been offered a position in the newly revived Double 0 program. It is said to be based on the James Bond franchise and tells an original narrative that has been inspired by the novels and short stories of Ian Fleming as well as the popular movies.
After having been delayed previously, it sounds as though the action-adventure game is expected to launch on time for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch 2 release has been delayed until later this summer.
Yoshi Sweeps In As A Switch 2 Exclusive
Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, many have felt conflicted about whether to upgrade to the system when there haven't been very many exclusive titles for it. Other than Mario Kart World, Pokémon Pokopia, and Donkey Kong Bananza, many of the Nintendo property games that are only found on Switch 2 have not had the greatest of reviews. And many, like the recent Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, have launched on the original Nintendo Switch instead.
Although more games are added to the Switch 2 library each month, having the beloved face of Yoshi joining that list of exclusives could make a big difference for Switch 2 sales. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book arrives on May 21 and is the first Yoshi game since Yoshi and the Crafted World in 2019.
Like many of the Yoshi games, the side-scrolling puzzle adventure could be one that is just as fun for adults as it is for children. Personally speaking, Yoshi is my favorite character in the Mario universe, so I can't help but feel this cutie is underappreciated by developers. I am so excited to see what this game has to offer.
Forza Horizon 6 Takes Us To The Streets Of Japan
Sadly, GTA 6 isn't in the lineup yet, but fans of racing can enjoy Forza Horizon 6's launch, taking us to the scenic land of Japan. The Forza franchise is perhaps the best-known racing series in recent years, with Forza Horizon 5 having been the biggest launch in Xbox Game Studios' history with over 10 million players in its first week.
Now, Forza Horizon 6 already looks as though it could pass that record due to the popularity of the upcoming game. It promises to be even bigger and better, with stunning Japanese landmarks, more cars and customizations, and more. Even small details like enhanced steering wheel animations and acoustic sound environments have been lovingly approached, adding to the immersion when driving.
Of course, Forza Horizon 6 isn't just a racing game. The open world exploration with side objectives, as well as the opportunities to collect rare cars, make it as much a driving sim as a racer. Although the racing certainly looks impressive, too.
Every Game Releasing In May 2026
While those may be some of the most talked about games of May 2026, those are far from the only things coming out. Indie adventures like Duck Side of the Moon promise cartoonish exploration in space. Meanwhile, Yerba Buena takes us to San Francisco in the 1970s, where an NPC is living in an abandoned game world that is threatened (you even have a unique "Copy and Paste" game mechanic to manipulate your surroundings).
Many games are making the leap into early access on Steam, providing developers with a chance to test out their games with real audiences and giving players a chance to provide helpful feedback on the story, mechanics, and even look of the games. Of course, you may prefer to wait for the games to be fully released out of early access so you can enjoy the more polished, completed versions.
