Masters Of The Universe Credits Scenes: How Many, New Characters & Sequel Setup Explained

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Masters of the Universe.

Essentially, Masters of the Universe serves as the origin story of Nicholas Galitzine's He-Man, showing some of his childhood in Eternia through flashbacks before picking up in modern day, when he's living on Earth and searching for the Sword of Power so he can return home. Once he does, he reclaims the power of Grayskull and uses it to defeat Skeletor (Jared Leto) and return Eternia to its former glory.

The movie ends with Adam getting his name of He-Man, as well as giving Teela (Camila Mendes) her hero name of Warrior Goddess. He then rides off on Cringer aka Battle Cat, who's acquired his armor from the original Masters of the Universe franchise. The Masters of the Universe ending concludes Adam's origin story, while leaving the door open for more. That's where the credits scenes come in.

Altogether, Masters of the Universe has three post-credits scenes. The first arrives right after the title card at the end of the movie. The second appears in the middle of the credits, after the stylized credits end and before the plain white-text credits begin. And the third Masters of the Universe credits scene is at the very end of the credits. Now, we break down what these scenes include and what they mean for the future of Galitzine's He-Man franchise.

Here's What Happens In Masters of the Universe's 3 Credits Scenes

He-Man, Idris Elba as Man at Arms, Johannes Haukur Johannesson as Fisto In Masters Of The Universe

Masters of the Universe Credits Scene #1 — The first credits scene introduces fan-favorite character Orko, a Trollan magician from the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon. He appears in Eternos, rendered in what appears to be full CGI, with a high-pitched, nasal voice similar to the cartoon. In the scene, Orko speaks directly to the audience, reiterating the themes of the movie, how muscles don't make a man and if your face is a literal skeleton, you're likely to be the villain.

Masters of the Universe Credits Scene #2 — The second credits scene is much more substantial, and at first features Queen Marlena (Charlotte Riley) standing on the ramparts of the castle in Eternos, speaking to Duncan (Idris Elba). They're talking about Adam's return to Eternia and how Marlena had given up hope of them "both" returning. Duncan responds that one day "she" will come back too, just like Adam.

The scene then cuts to a completely new location, with some kind of structure or city in the distance, and She-Ra standing on a hill with her back to the camera. An unnamed character comes into frame addressing her as, "Force Captain Adora," to which she responds, "No, not anymore." The camera cuts in closer on the sword She-Ra is holding, showing the Sword of Protection and small lightning bolts, before the scene ends.

Masters of the Universe Credits Scene #3 — The last and final credits scene is another short one. In it, we return to Skeletor's lifeless skull where it fell when Adam defeated him and destroyed his body. It's picked up by Evil-Lyn (Allison Brie), who escaped from Teela in the final fight scene. Evil-Lyn tells Skeletor, "You've looked better," as she steals the skull away from Eternos. Then, Skeletor's menacing laugh can be heard as the scene ends.

What Orko And She-Ra's Introductions Mean For The Masters Of The Universe Sequel

In terms of Orko, it's very likely the diminutive magician will appear in the Masters of the Universe sequel, should that end up happening. The character was an ally of He-Man in the cartoons, and often provided comedic relief. Although the Masters of the Universe movie had plenty of comedy, its at-times silly humor makes Orko an easy addition for more fun within the cast of characters.

Orko's mishaps with magic will also likely be part of the potential sequel, but it's unclear how exactly he might fit into the story, whether he'll be a key player or another ally like Fisto and Ram Man. That will largely depend on what the story of the sequel will be and whether it has to do with why he came to Eternia from Trolla. It's possible Orko could simply be a side character in the Masters of the Universe sequel, providing more comic relief with his wonky magic.

As for She-Ra, ScreenRant asked Masters of the Universe director Travis Knight about her inclusion, and he spoke about the character's potential future in the franchise. He said:

I've said this before, but when I make a movie, I assume I never get another shot at playing around with these characters in this world, so you don't want to leave anything out there. You want to put everything you have into the movie, which we did. And the film stands on its own two feet. I think it tells a story from beginning to end. I think it's fun, I think it's action-packed, and it's emotional.

But there is a world that exists outside of the frame of the movie, and those character stories do go on whether we tell them cinematically or not. Adam's sister has always been a huge part of the franchise. If we're to be so lucky to tell another story in this universe, she would play a very, very big role in another movie.

Based on Knight's comments, it seems the She-Ra credits scene is setting her up for the sequel, rather than a movie of her own — though it's not out of the realm of possibility that she might lead a film on her own eventually. After all, She-Ra has led a couple of animated series of her own, and is a very popular character within the He-Man franchise.

Knight also seems to confirm that the film franchise will keep Adam and Adora as twin siblings. In that case, She-Ra's next appearance will need to answer some questions, like where she was when Adam was sent to Earth, and how she acquired the Sword of Protection. The scene makes it seem like Adora has just transformed into She-Ra for the first time, so if a Masters of the Universe sequel happens, it will need to explain her origin and how she teams up with Adam.

Will Skeletor Return In The Next Masters Of The Universe Movie?

Although it seemed like Adam had defeated Skeletor for good at the end of Masters of the Universe, the final credits scene indicates the villain will return in the future. Evil-Lyn will presumably use his skull to resurrect him, though it's unclear what that will mean for the He-Man antagonist, whether he'll be weak and need to further recover. It's possible he may be resurrected and be the villain of the sequel, or return in a third/another film down the road.

Given the introduction of She-Ra, it's possible the villain of a potential Masters of the Universe sequel will be another antagonistic force, like Hordak, the leader of the Evil Horde. It would make sense for the sequel to shift focus from Skeletor to avoid repetitive storytelling, and introduce a new villain for both He-Man and She-Ra to face. If that's the case, Skeletor could play a small role in the sequel or not appear at all, then return in a future movie.

For now, details about a Masters of the Universe sequel remain unknown, especially since it's not yet been given a green light. Amazon MGM and Mattel will take a look at the reception and box office earnings of Masters of the Universe before making that determination, but the film's credits scenes certainly pave the way for a whole franchise featuring beloved characters from the 80s series.

If another movie ends up happening, the Masters of the Universe credits scenes make it clear that Orko, She-Ra and a returning Skeletor will factor into the franchise. How exactly remains to be seen, but hopefully, this isn't a case where a movie makes promises in its credits scenes that the studio won't pay off. We'll see what becomes of the Masters of the Universe credits scenes in the weeks and months to come.
