Married At First Sight's Joel Moses labels Juliette Chae 'fake and insincere' in explosive interview

Married At First Sight groom Joel Moses has revealed he reached breaking point while filming the Channel Nine show.

Speaking to Daily Mail, Joel, 31, admitted that the ongoing conflict with bride Juliette Chae left him emotionally drained.

'When you're around darkness like that for weeks on end, the darkness consumes you and it does dim your light,' he explained.

The groom recently shocked viewers when he chose to write 'leave' during the tense couch session with the experts.

But Joel insists the decision was about protecting his dignity.

'It wasn't an easy decision because I was enjoying being on the show and enjoying being on camera and enjoying the whole circus of it really,' he said.

Speaking to Daily Mail, Joel, 31, admitted that the ongoing conflict with bride Juliette Chae left him emotionally drained

'But I wasn't enjoying being with Juliette,' he continued.

'If I could stay on the show by myself I would have done that... I chose my dignity and I was willing to risk leaving the show.'

Joel was forced to remain in the experiment after Juliette chose to stay – a decision he says left him stunned.

'I was pretty shocked that she wrote stay because it seemed like she hated me,' he said.

Joel refused to accept an apology Juliette offered during the tense group confrontation.

'Because it was fake and insincere, like every word that comes out of her mouth,' he said.

'She didn't even apologise to me first. She apologised to the group.'

'She said, "I don't have that much hatred towards you." That's not an apology – you're telling me you hate me somewhat.'

'When you're around darkness like that for weeks on end, the darkness consumes you and it does dim your light,' he said

However, the following day Joel decided to give the relationship one last chance after reaching out privately.

'I put out an olive branch,' he revealed.

'I thought, look, we're here for another week, let's just try to lighten the mood a bit.'

According to Joel, Juliette later visited his apartment and offered what he described as a genuine apology.

'She was crying and she seemed upset,' he said.

'I was still sceptical but she apologised without making excuses, so I took her at her word.

'I told her it was a one strike policy. If she pushed my buttons again, that was it.'

The pair even shared a bed the night before the couples retreat.

According to Joel, Juliette quickly aligned herself with fellow bride Gia during filming

'We slept in the same bed – we didn't have sex – but things had improved,' he said.

Joel claims their relationship remained calm during the retreat – but only because Juliette turned her attention elsewhere.

'She didn't disrespect me again,' he said.

'She was on her best behaviour towards me. But she just picked a new target.'

'She swapped Joel for Bec. That's what happened.'

The intruder groom also made explosive claims about alliances forming among the brides.

According to Joel, Juliette quickly aligned herself with fellow bride Gia during filming.

'Gia and Juliette formed an alliance from day one at the wedding,' he alleged.

'Gia ran up to her and said, "We're your besties, we've got your back."

'But in truth Gia is looking for a useful idiot – and that's Juliette.'

'I've said Gia is the puppet master behind the shadows.'

Joel also accused Juliette of spreading rumours about other couples.

'She would come up to me and say things like Bec and Danny were colluding in the kitchen trying to get more airtime,' he said.

'It's absolute bollocks. She's just creating stories.'

'Every word she comes out with is a manipulative lie.'

Despite the drama, Joel says he felt a sense of validation when the experts finally challenged Juliette's behaviour at the Commitment Ceremony.

'I would say the supervillain was slain by the experts,' he said.

'Everyone was pretty satisfied to see it.'

But Joel admits he was in a dark place at the time.

'I wasn't happy in that moment because I was in a terrible place mentally. I felt consumed by darkness.'
