Everett CollectionAt the end of the day, Margot Robbie is just a girl.
ScreenRant's Ash Crossan was on hand at Los Angeles' Greystone Manor for a press junket ahead of Robbie's highly anticipated next release — Wuthering Heights — where she spoke with both Robbie, who plays Catherine Earnshaw in the film, and her co-star Jacob Elordi, who takes on the role of Heathcliff. And while the conversation largely stemmed around the film and some of the moments that are sure to leave viewers at bated breath, Robbie was all-too-relatable when she stepped out of the world of Emily Brontë's classic Gothic novel and revealed the "most swoon-worthy thing" she believes a partner could do.
In the film, out next month, there's a moment where Heathcliff shields Catherine's eyes from the rain, a romantic marker that signifies the lengths Heathcliff is willing to go — both big and small — to show Cathy that he is there to protect her. The moment, which wasn't originally in the script, ended up making it to the final cut after both Robbie and director Emerald Fennell agreed it was too good to leave to bloopers.
He did that in the rehearsal to actually shield my face from the rain, just instinctively 'cause he's a gentleman, and Emerald and I were both like, 'Do that again in the scene, for the whole scene. That was amazing.'
And while Robbie agreed that the moment was terribly romantic, in her day-to-day it's the simple things that really get her going — like the way a man reverses his car.
Something that kind of is swoon-worthy, and I don't know why, is like, when a guy is reversing, and he does this on the steering wheel [motions to turning wheel with one hand.] I don't know why that's so hot, but it is. Anytime you see a guy do that, 'I'm like, damn...' If they put their hand on your seat, and then did that, 'Wow.'
Elordie seemed on board with Robbie's take, adding, "It does feel cool. That's a really good one. I can't trump that."
The film, based on Brontë's novel of the same name, sees Heathcliff and Catherine's deeply passionate relationship forever damaged when Cathy marries the wealthy Edgar Linton (Shazad Latif). Heathcliff then sets out to exact revenge on the aristocratic families of the Yorkshire moors.
And while there was some initial backlash when the trailers for the film were released due to their sexualized elements, with both Robbie and Elordi's casting as the leads criticized, social media reactions to Wuthering Heights have been positive. Several reviews have also come out praising the duo's chemistry, the intense story, and the opulent design, including one from Collider's Meredit Loftus who complimented the movie's "gorgeous set design & costumes" as well as the "bombastic music by Charli XCX."
Wuthering Heights, which also stars Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, and Ewan Mitchell, hits theaters on February 13, 2026.
