Kylie Jenner's ex Travis Scott makes surprise appearance in first look for Christopher Nolan epic The Odyssey

2 weeks ago 8

A new television spot promoting Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated adaptation of The Odyssey revealed on Sunday that Travis Scott is part of the epic's cast.

Football viewers and fans of the 34-year-old rapper were shocked when he briefly popped up during a television spot for the film during the AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos on Fox.

Scott — who recently made rare comments about the two children he shares with Kylie Jenner — even had a line in the trailer, raising the possibility that his appearance may be more than just a glorified cameo in Nolan's latest parade of stars.

Matt Damon continues his long association with Nolan by playing Odysseus, the crafty Greek hero who helped to end the Trojan War, before he was prevented from returning home to his family for two decades due to the machinations of the Greek gods.

The new teaser highlighted a previously released scene featuring a conversation between Telemachus (Spider-Man star Tom Holland) and Menelaus (Jon Bernthal), but it had been newly edited to include additional footage, including a surprise interruption by Scott.

In the new version, Telemachus was cut off by the Sicko Mode rapper, who quieted the boisterous group of soldiers by standing on their table and banging his staff on top of it.

'A war . . . a man . . . a trick — a trick to break the walls of Troy,' he said in a booming voice between dramatic pauses, as a quick succession of images of the Trojan War that were previously featured in teaser trailers flashed on screen.

'And burn it . . . screaming to the ground,' Scott concluded.

Despite the apparent confirmation that the hitmaker will be featured in The Odyssey, his IMDb page doesn't list any upcoming role in Nolan's historical epic, and it's unclear what part Scott might be playing based only on his limited dialogue.

Although Homer's epic poem begins ten years after the events of the Trojan War, Nolan's adaptation appears to include some major events from the end of the war, including Odysseus's plan to trick the Trojans by hiding Greek soldiers inside a giant horse presented as a peace offering, though the Trojan horse is only briefly referenced in Homer's tale.

Despite featuring flashbacks of the pivotal moment that helped propel the Greeks to victory over the Trojans, Scott is featured in a scene a decade after the end of the war as Odysseus's son Telemachus goes in search of his missing father.

The rapper previously worked with Nolan in a purely musical context for his 2020 sci-fi action thriller Tenet, in which Scott performed the film's theme song, THE PLAN.

In a GQ profile of Scott from that year, Nolan spoke about his collaboration with Scott on the performer's first song written for a film.

'His voice became the final piece of a yearlong puzzle,' Nolan said. 'His insights into the musical and narrative mechanism [composer] Ludwig Göransson and I were building were immediate, insightful, and profound.'

Scott later shared a photo of a handwritten note Nolan had shared with him praising his IMAX-shot video for FRANCHISE, which played before IMAX screenings of Tenet; Nolan is pictured in February 2024 in Berlin

Scott and Nolan also share a love for premium-format IMAX film.

Ahead of the release of Tenet, Scott shot his music video for FRANCHISE — which he also directed — on IMAX stock, and the video was later shown before IMAX screenings of Tent in order to lure moviegoers back to cinemas.

Scott later shared a photo of a handwritten note Nolan had shared with him in response to the video.

'Travis — Love the video (shot on film, no less!)' Nolan gushed in the note, which was written in pencil in a lined notebook. 'I can't wait to hear it on the IMAX speakers, and see those sheep stampede across the giant screen as a part of a Travis/Tenet/Travis sandwich! Great work, Chris.'

Fans will have a chance to see if Scott has any more lines in The Odyssey when the film is released in theaters on July 17.

Ahead of his big on-screen moment, the rapper made rare comments about the kids he shares with Kylie Jenner as her new boyfriend Timothée Chalamet earned another Oscar nomination.

The Astroworld rapper — born Jacques Bermon Webster II — opened up about being the dad to daughter Stormi, sevn, and son Aire, three, whom he shares with 28-year-old makeup mogul.

'You can’t do a lot of crazy s*** like you would. Man, my kids are just like me when it comes to trying to get off ideas,” the rapper added,' the rapper explained as he said that the hardest part of touring is being away from his children.

Scott went on to boast that his son Aire is just as innovative as he is.

The star said: 'I took him to the Disney Imagineering spot, and his mind was just going off when he seen the robots and all the new tech and how it’s built.'

He also talked about AI and revealed whether he lets his kids use it.

Scott explained: 'My kids don’t have AI. Having AI right now will compress their ability for their brain to maximize.

'So they got to learn the physical and the actual way of learning so then they know how to actually use AI to their best ability, because if it’s doing everything for you, how do you even know what’s right or wrong?'

Jenner and Scott first started dating in 2017 and months later she was pregnant. She surprised millions of fans in February 2018 as she revealed they welcomed their first child together Stormi.

Then months later, she made a surprise appearance in the music video for Stop Trying To Be God.

However, the stars split in October 2019 and later got back together.

Then in 2021, Jenner announced that she was pregnant with their second child before welcoming Aire in February 2022.

They then split for good in 2023. Travis and Kylie have remained friends despite their tumultuous romantic relationship.

She previously had a long-term relationship with Scott's fellow rapper Tyga, beginning when the latter was in his 20s and Jenner was a teenager.
