EXCLUSIVE: Kerry Godliman (After Life) and Nina Singh (Virdee) have been cast as the lead detectives in BritBox and ITV’s reboot of Dalziel and Pascoe.
Godliman and Singh will play female detectives in a twist on the original series, which starred Warren Clarke and Colin Buchanan in the titular roles.
Here’s the logline: “The series centers on the relationship between seasoned Detective Inspector Andrea Dalziel (Godliman) and the newly qualified, by-the-book perfectionist Detective Sergeant Paige Pascoe (Singh). Despite their clashing methods, Dalziel and Pascoe work together to form a formidable partnership that is underscored by humor, heart and humanity.”
Based on books by Reginald Hill, the original Dalziel and Pascoe aired on the BBC for 12 seasons between 1996-2007.
All3Media-backed West Road Pictures is producing the six-part reboot, which is co-created by Colette Kane (Department Q) and Daisy Martey (Vikings: Valhalla). Other writers include Chris Ryden and Jon Rowe, and Danusia Samal (Gangs of London).
Executive producers for West Road are Jonathan Fisher, Ellie Birnie and Ingrid Goodwin. Kane will act as lead writer and executive producer. Jon Farrar, Stephen Nye and Lucie Wolfman serve as executive producers for BritBox. Overseeing the show for ITV are drama chief Polly Hill and Nana Hughes, head of scripted comedy.
Produced in association with All3Media International, Dalziel and Pascoe will stream on BritBox in the U.S. and Canada. ITV will screen in the UK. Production gets underway in the UK in the spring.
Godliman said: “It’s a juicy role as she’s such an interesting personality — accomplished at her job, warm, but also direct to the point of being abrasive. Weary and warm-hearted.”
Singh added: “I find Kerry hilarious, so I know at times I’ll struggle not to be laughing. Colette Kane and the writing team have incorporated humor so well into the scripts at the same time as keeping you constantly guessing what’ll happen next.”
