It wasn’t exactly Tom Cruise rappelling in from the roof of a stadium, but Oscar nominee Kate Hudson got some serious promo time tonight in the LA28 video played toward the end of the Milan Cortina Olympics on NBC.
The star’s vocal prowess — no surprise to those who’ve seen Song Sung Blue or heard her album — was on full display as she sang “California Dreamin'” across the opening of the video. What followed were images of athletes likely to figure prominently in 2028 and beautiful images of life in the city, from Downtown to Venice to Inglewood to Griffith Park to Hollywood to San Pedro to Santa Monica to Century City.
The Mamas & the Papas’ classic tune was written in 1963 during what was a particularly cold winter in New York during which Michelle Phillips was dreaming about Southern California.
In a modern-day parallel, the golden-hued imagery coupled with Hudson’s honey-hued vocals likely had many showed-in East Coast viewers longing for California, as well.

The spot also offered ample synergy for Hudson and Song Sung Blue, as the film was released by NBCU’s Focus Features and is now available to stream on Peacock.
