Jack Black Returning To Host ‘SNL’, Less Than A Year After His Last Appearance, With Jack White

In 2019, Jack Black teamed up with Jack White on a Tenacious D song.

The A Minecraft Movie star and the former frontman of The White Stripes will team up again, this time on Saturday Night Live.

Black will host the show on April 4, with White as musical guest.

It comes less than a year after Black, who also starred in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, last hosted the NBC show. He appeared on April 5, ostensibly to promote A Minecraft Movie, with Elton John and Brandi Carlile as musical guest.

It seems that Black SNL appearances are like buses, none for ages and then two come along at once – the Shallow Hal star’s last hosting appearance before 2025 was in 2005.

It will also see Black enter the five-timer club as host – he has also appeared as musical guest with his band Tenacious D in December 2006.

Black has also starred in the Kung Fu Panda franchise, The Holiday, High Fidelity and the Jumanji franchise. He will next star in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

When Black and White teamed up for the song Don’t Blow It, Kage, in 2018, they jokingly called it Jack Gray. The song is actually credited as a Tenacious D song with White as producer, having recorded it at the latter’s home studio in Nashville.

White himself has appeared on the show a lot. He appeared in 2002 with The White Stripes and then returned in 2012, 2018, 2020 and 2023, as well as appearing on SNL50: The Homecoming Concert.

Saturday Night Live is produced by Broadway Video and exec produced by Lorne Michaels.
