The all-female artist group known as CLAMP includes some of the best manga authors, credited for many of the most beloved stories in the industry. While they are best known for their more mainstream titles like Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, and the Tsubasa franchise, they have many other amazing series. One of the most cherished by fans is the supernatural manga known as xxxHOLIC.
This intriguing and entertaining series began publication back in 2003, quickly becoming one of Kodansha’s most popular titles and ending in 2011. Its sequel, xxxHOLIC Rei, was never finished, as it entered a hiatus in 2017. After 7 years without a chapter, fans of this beloved series can breathe easy, as it will continue its publication in April 2025.

After the resounding success of the original series, CLAMP announced in 2013 that a sequel to the popular xxxHOLIC manga would be released. While the first few years were completely normal for xxxHOLIC Rei, the name of the manga’s successor, the problems began in 2014, when it entered its first hiatus. This pause in publication lasted until 2015, when the series began publishing chapters unevenly and without a proper calendar to follow. In 2017, xxxHOLIC Rei entered an indefinite hiatus, leaving fans to wonder if the manga would ever be completed.

At least, CLAMP has confirmed that the story will be continued in this year’s issue 21 of Kodansha’s upcoming Weekly Young Magazine, which will be released on April 21, 2025. This publication used to be the home of the original manga until it moved to the Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in June 2010. The official release schedule for future chapters has not been confirmed yet, but fans expect that this upcoming entry means the series will resume its continuous publication.

A Series That Blends the Supernatural and a Fantastical World
Created to combine a more realistic world with the fantastical elements of the Tsubasa Chronicles manga, xxxHOLIC tells the story of Kimihiro Watanuki. From a young age, the protagonist realized that he possessed the ability to see into the supernatural world. While this ability might seem amazing at first, he has spent his entire life traumatized by the specters and ghouls that haunt the Earth. One day, Watanuki comes across a mysterious shop owned by a witch named Yuko Ichihara, who can grant people's wishes.
Upon realizing what she can do, Kimihiro immediately asks for his skill to see the supernatural cease to exist. The witch, with a cryptic tone, agrees to grant his wish, under the condition that he works for her until she considers his debt paid. It is a moving romance with many fantastical elements that make it an incredible experience for readers. As is the case with other CLAMP manga, it has a unique and stunning art style, having been praised by fans of the series for many years.
The return of xxxHOLIC must be one of the best news for fans of the series, as well as an amazing way to start 2025. While its continuous publication has not yet been confirmed, the knowledge that the series is still being written is beyond satisfying for followers of the CLAMP manga group.
