‘It’s Florida, Man’ Renewed For Season 3 By HBO

EXCLUSIVE: HBO is sticking with Florida.

The network has renewed esoteric comedy It’s Florida, Man for a third season. It comes less than a month after the second season wrapped.

The anthology series is relatively low budget for HBO and has aired on Friday nights, where the network has traditionally aired its more irreverent shows such as How To With John Wilson, High Maintenance, Random Acts of Flyness, Animals, Los Espookys and Fantasmas as well as its upcoming A24-produced late-night series Neighbors, which explores the chaotic and complicated disputes of neighbors across the U.S.

It joins a comedy lineup that includes The Chair Company, from Tim Robinson, and I Love LA, which were both recently renewed for second seasons, as well as Jason Bateman-led DTF St. Louis and a third season of Lisa Kudrow’s The Comeback, which are both airing in March.

Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, told Deadline, “It’s Danny McBride and his company, and I think it’s a lot of fun. I’ll break news with you; we are going to do another season.”

It’s Florida, Man is essentially a series of short movies set in the Sunshine State based on stories from locals. For instance, the second season featured stories a man plotting to steal a casino boat, a guy who found himself nearly naked in a pizza joint and the search for the elusive skunk ape.

Each episode explores a ripped-from-the-headlines tale featuring “candid” accounts from everyday Floridians recreated by actors. Guest stars have included Tiffany Haddish, Johnny Knoxville, Taika Waititi, Chet Hanks, Anna Faris, Simon Rex, Juliette Lewis and Ego Nwodim.

It was created by Mark Herwick, who is president of non-scripted television at Range Media, and Jeff Tomsic, who has exec produced comedy specials from the likes of Bert Kreischer, Ilana Glazer and Brett Goldstein.

Produced by Danny McBride’s Rough House Pictures and Range Studios, Herwick, Tomsic, McBride and Brandon James exec produce, while Tomsic directs.

Tomsic recently told NPR that he was “hopeful” of a third season. “There is a lot of stuff that we couldn’t use this season, and that I’d love to shoot and work on. Every season, we’re learning a lot. It’s a surprisingly difficult show,” he said.

Danny McBride said, “Every time we think the stories can’t get any wilder, Florida proves us wrong. We’re grateful HBO keeps letting us shine a spotlight on the beautiful madness, and we can’t wait to dive back in and celebrate the weird, wonderful spirit of the state.”

Nina Rosenstein, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, Late Night & Specials, added, “Season three is just more proof that Florida remains undefeated – there’s no shortage of wild-but-true stories and an incredible cast of actors game enough to bring them to life.”
