Nikki Glaser, whose 2024 was a breakout year for the standup comedian following her acclaimed HBO comedy special “Someday You’ll Die” and a smashingly successful performance at Netflix’s Tom Brady roast, started 2025 strong as the host of the Golden Globes on Sunday night.
The high-profile gig marks the most important night in Glaser’s career so far. The pressure is turned on high during the Globes, an event that has become closely associated with its past emcees, from Ricky Gervais to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Last year, Jo Koy tanked with a crude joke about Barbie’s breasts.
Speaking to Variety ahead of the ceremony Glaser said, “I feel really ready. I just know it’ll be killer.”
Glaser was right. The comedian charmed the crowd, making sharp and expertly-written jabs at the A-listers in the crowd, making jokes about Timothee Chalamet’s sparse eyelash-looking mustache, and how Glen Powell’s best role of the year was in her head while having sex with her boyfriend.
One of the best bits came later in the night, when she walked on stage with a Glinda-inspired sparkling pink dress and “Conclave” pope hat while singing her own rendition of “Popular.” The performance was cut short after she took a fake phone call from the stage telling her how much everyone was hating it.
If Glaser’s hosting gig had you laughing out loud from home on Sunday night, you’re in luck: the comedian is currently on the road, likely testing out material for her next special (and hopefully revisiting some favorites from “Someday You’ll Die.”).
Glaser will make stops in Tacoma, Portland, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Vancouver, Hartford and dozens more cities through July, 2025. She and David Spade also have a two-night residency at Las Vegas’s Venetian Theatre on Sept. 5-6. You can buy tickets here.
