Mel B has revealed that David Beckham thought her 'abusive' ex-husband Stephen Belafonte was 'bad news' while they were married.

The Spice Girl, 49, has detailed that her bandmate Victoria Beckham's husband David, 49, shared his real thoughts about her ex from their first meeting.

Mel accused Stephen of being abusive and controlling during their relationship, which she has discussed in interviews and her biography.

Stephen has denied the claims and has filed a £3.9million defamation lawsuit in the U.S. against his ex-wife, who he was married to from 2007 until 2017 and shares daughter Madison, 13, with.

Writing in her 2018 autobiography Brutally Honest, Mel said Stephen would 'badger her to introduce' him to the England football legend leaving her 'humiliated'.

Mel wrote: 'David turned up at one point in the late afternoon with [sons] Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.

'But as everyone rushed to coo over each other’s kids, Stephen had his eyes fixed on David. He had been badgering me to introduce him for months.

'"Get Beckham to meet up with us", he’d say every time I was going to call Vic. "We should go out on our own with them. Can’t you even sort that out, Melanie? I thought she was meant to be your friend".

'"They’re busy", I’d tell him week after week. "They’re not around". I didn’t want to put them through a night with Stephen. Would you?'

She continued: 'I have known David since he and Vic first got together when he was this shy twenty-one-year-old completely besotted with Posh Spice.

'Back then we'd vet each other’s boyfriends – often giving them the Spanish Inquisition when we were all together. Poor guys.

'David got an easier time than most because Vic fell for him straight away. "Don’t be mean to him", she’d say, so I’d just tease him gently about his hair or his clothes – something VERY mild for me. But David is still David. He’s pretty unassuming. There’s still that shyness in him, and he’s most relaxed around his kids.'

Mel explained: 'So there he was. He said hello to everyone, we all had a little chat, and then David went off to the kitchen area to make some ramen noodles for his sons. We left him to it. You could sense he wanted some space and time with his kids.

'Stephen didn’t get that at all. I cringed as I saw him immediately barge into the tiny kitchen. And out of the corner of my eye, I could see that Stephen was just following David around, being loud, telling jokes, trying to get him to go out on the town with him, "What do you say we hit a few bars? You must know the best places?"

Mel added: '"I knew he was bad news the moment I met him", David later told my mum. Stephen couldn’t get the hint. Humiliatingly, I saw one of the assistants walk up to my husband and suggest David be given "a moment with his boys"'

She concluded: 'I didn’t want to look at the other girls. I didn’t want to look at Stephen, who would be seething with me for not making it okay'

MailOnline have contacted Mel B, Stephen and David's representatives for comment.

In September, Mel B's legal team asked for Stephen's £3.9million defamation lawsuit to be thrown out, but it was denied, The Mirror reported.

According to the newspaper, Stephen said: 'I am ready to prove Melanie's statements about me are false.'

In their filing to have the case dismissed, Mel B's lawyers said: 'Brown should have never been dragged through the courts because of an exercise of [her] constitutional rights.'

The film producer is suing Mel B, claiming that she 'engaged in a deliberate and wide-ranging campaign to cause him severe emotional distress and destroy his reputation', it was revealed in May.

Stephen, 49, alleges that Mel began her 'long-brewing harassment' in 2017 with 'fraudulent' domestic violence claims, which he says these were eventually dismissed.

The lawsuit added: 'The damage had been done. As a result of false allegations of rape, illegal gun possession, sex trafficking, production of illegal porn, domestic battery and child endangerment, Mr Belafonte lost access to his home and children.

In May, Mel B was awarded an honorary doctorate for her campaigning efforts for victims of domestic abuse.

She said the award was 'as massive' as performing at Wembley Stadium with the Spice Girls.

Appearing on Loose Women in March, Mel B revealed that five years after leaving Stephen, she still suffered from panic attacks and PTSD, and had previously tried to end her marriage six or seven times.

Speaking on Loose Women, Mel made an appearance on the show during their Facing It Together campaign, which aims to raise awareness of domestic abuse.

Over the years, Mel B has accused him of physical, emotional, and financial abuse, claims he denies.

Mel told the panel that she was reluctant to leave Belafonte as she had completely ostracised herself from her family.

She said: 'Even though I was in my marriage for ten years I tried to leave six or seven times. I went back due to fear or blackmail.

'You think ''what am i going to do if I leave, I haven't spoken to my mum in weeks, then its month, then years.'' It happens so gradually.'

'You feel like you're doing everything wrong and they encourage that feeling. I went from living in a mansion in LA to my mum's bungalow with my kids.'

Mel also appeared on the show to discuss the release of a revised version of her autobiography Brutally Honest.

She said: 'Writing the book was cathartic. But it was a taboo topic in 2018 and no publisher wanted it.'

She said of the dark period in her life which was plagued by financial stress: 'People will assume, ''She's rich, she's a Spice Girl''.

'But I went from performing to thousands at Wembley on the Spice Girls' 13-date Reunion Tour in 2019 to squeezing into my mum's with my kids sleeping in bed with me.

'I didn't expect that to happen in my 40s after a successful career but I had nowhere else to go because I was so badly affected financially from my relationship, I had to pick up the pieces.'

Mel spent five years saving and moved into a converted farmhouse in West Yorkshire in October.

In addition to her work with the Spice Girls, Mel had built her fortune back up, gaining lucrative jobs on American television shows such as the US version of Strictly Come Dancing - Dancing with the Stars - and a judge on America's Got Talent while living in Los Angeles.

She also appeared as a judge on The X Factor in the UK prior to moving back home for good.
