Evidence is mounting that Professor E. Gadd from the Luigi's Mansion series has a secret presence in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. With Luiz Guzman and Issa Rae joining the cast as Wart and Honey Queen respectively, there's no doubt that the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie has a packed ensemble of characters, but that doesn't mean all has been revealed.

Several deep-cut or under-the-radar characters feel like they're on the table for cameos in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, including Tatanga from Super Mario Land, Fryguy and Tryclyde from Super Mario Bros. 2, Guppy from Super Mario Galaxy, and, Professor E. Gadd, who has arguably the best odds of making it into the film out of all the unconfirmed characters.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Includes A Possible Nod To Professor E. Gadd

Rosalina fights Bowser Jr in a lab in Super Mario Galaxy Movie

The final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie features an interesting shot of Rosalina standing in front of what appears to be a laboratory. The aesthetics that the film went with for this area draw close comparisons to the lab of Professor E. Gadd, particularly in regard to the green computer screens and the red chair.

Professor E. Gadd is remembered primarily as the scientist behind Luigi's exploits in the Luigi's Mansion series. In addition to designing Luigi's trademark ghost-sucking vacuum cleaner, he also built F.L.U.D.D., the machine that Mario uses to clean up the goop in Super Mario Sunshine.

The resemblance between E. Gadd's lab and the one in the trailer could be a coincidence, but that's not the only sign that he may be on hand. Bowser Jr.'s weapon of choice in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie can be clearly identified as the Magic Paintbrush, an invention of E. Gadd. It's no secret that Bowser Jr. acquired the Magic Paintbrush from the scientist offscreen in Super Mario Sunshine.

With the paintbrush obviously being a plot device in the movie, it makes sense that the film will go into how Bowser Jr. got his hands on it. Since the movies so far have gone quite far in honoring the games and their characters, there's no reason why it would make a change here and cut out E Gadd's out of the Magic Paintbrush's origins.

Put together, the lab and the paintbrush offer a coherent explanation as to where E. Gadd could fit into the picture. It could be that after stealing the paintbrush, Bowser Jr. captures Professor E. Gadd and puts him to work in a lab.

Or, it may be that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has merged Professor E. Gadd's lab with Rosalina's Comet Observatory, a key location in the Super Mario Galaxy games. It could be that E. Gadd conducts his work as a scientist inside the Comet Observatory.

An Appearance From Professor E. Gadd Would Hold Important Implications For Mario & Luigi

Wacky Scientist Professor E. Gadd From The Luigi's Mansion Franchise

Were The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to go this route, it would open the door for a number of game-accurate moments and stories. Once he enters the fold, Luigi could theoretically obtain the Poltergeist 3000 for a Luigi's Mansion spinoff movie. This is something that the film could set up in a post-credits sequence after the Magic Paintbrush is returned to his possession.

Or, E. Gadd's role could lead to a major game tribute within The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's story, which could come in the form of F.LU.D.D. Since F.L.U.D.D. was the answer to the goop created by the Magic Paintbrush, E. Gadd could present Mario with the device to combat Bowser Jr. in time for the grand finale.
