Warning! This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Fallout season 2, episode 8.The Fallout season 2 finale was explosive and packed with big reveals, but there is one detail that I can't quite get over. While there have been some complaints online that the Fallout finale was a little overstuffed, I think they navigated the various story threads incredibly well.

The finale saw Lucy and Maximus reunited. The Ghoul finally got answers he's been searching for over centuries, and several major conflicts are set up ahead of season 3. However, one of the central moments of the episode didn't make a lot of sense, despite offering some fun action beats in the final episode.

The Fallout Season 2 Finale Has Awesome Action, Big Reveals, & A Great Set Up For Season 3

Speaking of action, the finale saw the Legion marching towards New Vegas, ready to take the city by force. Meanwhile, in Freeside, where Maximus fought back powerful Deathclaws, he was eventually joined by allies in the New California Republic that made short work of the monsters, thus freeing Maximus up to reunite with Lucy.

Meanwhile, the show also set up the computer version of Robert House, which will likely play a larger role in season 3, while also setting up the Enclave, the Forced Evolutionary Virus, and significant conflict with the Legion and the NCR, and the people in the Vaults. It's all coming to a head.

Maximus Manages To Hold Back The Deathclaw Attack On Freeside

But, after so much action and excitement, I can't help but think that the Deathclaw fight was underwhelming. That isn't to say that Maximus blowing up Deathclaws with rockets wasn't cool, and Thaddeus joining the battle just in time to shoot a Deathclaw before it overpowered his friend was awesome, but it didn't make enough sense.

The issue is, behind the gates, there was a large pack of Deathclaws. While he was stuck inside the fence, Maximus fended off at least three simultaneously before being thrown through the fence and creating a large hole. But outside the enclosure, the Deathclaws appear to exit one at a time, allowing for Maximus to pick them off individually.

Why Didn’t Multiple Deathclaws Approach At Once

Deathclaws appear to be savage fighters and maintain a strong desire to survive, but it seems really odd for these creatures, who literally fought together moments earlier inside the enclosure, to hold off on fighting until another one of their own is slaughtered.

This provides Maximus with the time and space to come off as the hero, but if the show was trying to be consistent and put the characters in real danger, this moment makes no sense. It's a shame that the fight couldn't have felt more authentic, but hopefully, this won't be the last time we see a conflict with a pack of Deathclaws in Fallout.
