Is that a 3D printer?
Image: Koei Tecmo, Game Freak/Nintendo, The Pokémon Company via PolygonIn Pokémon Pokopia, you can make copies of items that you may not have the recipe for (or shop access to, since some of the items appear quite randomly). Once you make a Pokémon Center, you'll have access to a 3D printer-looking object that will make things for you, so long as you provide it with a photo and some Pokémetal.
This is particularly nice, because you can take photos of fun items your friends may have when you visit their islands, and then use the copier to make them for yourself. This also works for collectibles like fossils and relics, so if you're striking out on finding something specific, you can head over to your buddy's island to snap some photos to print from.
Below, we explain how to use the 3D printer in the Pokémon Center to make item copies in Pokémon Pokopia.
How to make copies of items in Pokémon Pokopia
Before you use the 3D printer, it's important to note that it does seem like rarer items cost more Pokémetal/rare Pokémetal, so this printer isn't to be used lightly, especially early on when you don't have much access to Pokémetal. The most expensive items we've found have cost five rare Pokémetal, with some cheaper items only costing two Pokémetal.
You will get bountiful access to Pokémetal later in the game, so this is a more end-game item to use, though you can use it in a pinch to get new items you want early on.
Here are the steps you'll need to complete to make copies of your items:
-
Open your camera (the Minus button) and press Y to swap the camera to item mode. This should highlight specific items, putting a small tooltip with the item's name on it when it's in focus.

- Head to the Pokémon Center and interact with the 3D printer on the left side.
- Pick the photo of the item you want to copy.
- Pay the required Pokémetal or rare Pokémetal to get your item.
After you pay the Pokémetal cost, you'll receive your desired item immediately — no crafting time required!
