Actor Awards 2026 Biggest Winners: Michael B. Jordan, 'The Pitt' & More
It seems Dr. Dennis Whitaker might’ve had a secret residency in Springfield.
While attending the 2026 Actor Awards on March 1, Welsh actor Gerran Howell revealed a member of The Simpsons family helped him ace his character’s American accent on The Pitt.
“I think that’s where a lot of us Brits have gotten our American accents from,” Gerran, 35, told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet. “Thank you, Homer Simpson.”
Indeed, the Young Dracula alum is grateful he studied Homer’s distinct voice, as he noted the hardest part of becoming Whitaker—who officially became a first-year resident in the show’s second season—was saying “basic words authentically in an American accent.”
Though a difficult task, Gerran knew his determination paid off once shared the screen with his The Pitt costars, including star and producer Noah Wylie, for the first time.
“He’s the best, man,” he emphasized. “You couldn’t hope for a better leader for all of us. He’s just full of knowledge and he’s been around, so it’s no one better to follow. He’s very down to Earth.”
And that has led to a tight bond between the ensemble cast.
“We all kind of felt like we were put into [this show] together,” he continued. "t’s high pressure and lots of medical jargon to remember, but we were all in it together.”

True to Gerran’s words, he and his Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center family—including Taylor Dearden, Supriya Ganesh, Isa Briones, Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball and more—were all hand-in-hand when they won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series at the ceremony. And similar to his character’s lead personality, Noah gave the acceptance speech on behalf of his costars.
“I’ve never been more proud of a group of people in my life,” the 54-year-old told the audience. “This is the hardest-working group of people who answered the call for a kind of buy-in, immersive, total experience. It’s been challenging and difficult and rewarding in ways that I couldn’t possibly fathom.”
