While the controversial Star Wars show was canceled, it's still fascinating to explore what might have been for The Acolyte's future. For instance, we know that the show was prepared to explore Yoda's darker side thanks to some key reveals about what was planned for future seasons.
According to comments from showrunner Leslye Headland in a 2025 episode of The George Lucas Talk Show, the canceled future of the series would have revealed Yoda's role in the major Jedi Order cover-up that was revealed in The Acolyte's ending. Here's what we know about Yoda's canceled Acolyte future (and why it totally fits his overall Star Wars journey).
The Acolyte Showrunner Confirms Yoda Would Have Supported Vernestra's Jedi Order Cover-Up
If the show had received a second season, Leslye Headland confirmed that Yoda would have supported Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh’s controversial decision to cover up the truth behind a series of murders tied to the dark side.
Throughout the events of The Acolyte, we were shown that the Jedi Order was facing growing scrutiny from the Galactic Senate. Under these political pressures, Vernestra makes a dramatic decision to control the narrative with a quick solution in her investigation into all the recent Jedi deaths at the hands of Qimir aka The Stranger (as well as Mae & Osha Aniseya).
Vernestra placed the blame on Jedi Master Sol, painting him as a Jedi gone rogue.
With Sol dead and unable to defend himself, the Jedi Order gains a simple scapegoat that satisfies the Senate’s demand for answers. At the same time, the decision also buys Vernestra more time to secretly pursue The Stranger, who's heavily implied to be her own former apprentice.
As such, Headland confirmed that Yoda would have supported Vernestra following his brief appearance in the first season's final scenes, prioritizing the survival and public image of the Jedi Order over complete honesty.
Furthermore, Headland followed up the reveal in the podcast episode by telling fans not to come after her in the comments, as Yoda made similar decisions in the prequel trilogy.
It Wouldn't Have Been The First Time Yoda Made Dark Choices For The Jedi Order

When the Republic began its war against the Separatists, the Jedi Order quickly transitioned from keepers of the peace into generals and commanders of the Republic's clone armies, the hope being that it would bring a swifter end to the conflict and return to galactic peace.
As Grandmaster of the Jedi Order, Yoda played a key role in that transformation, while also being involved in several of the compromising wartime decisions that came ahead of the Jedi Order's downfall in Revenge of the Sith.
Keeping the full scope of his Star Wars history in mind, Yoda very much represented both the genuine wisdom and goodness of the Jedi Order, but also its deep flaws and hubris.
It's why Yoda's confirmed role in The Acolyte's future is so intriguing, as this decision to support Vernestra might have been one of the first times he chose to make a darker decision for the "greater good" of the Jedi Order's image and reputation, perhaps even being the catalyst for the Jedi Oder's transition from their peak status during the High Republic to the more flawed Order we see during the prequels.
Unfortunately, with The Acolyte not continuing beyond its first season, fans may never see that storyline fully play out on screen. Still, the idea that Yoda was willing to protect the Jedi Order’s reputation at the cost of the full truth offers a fascinating new perspective on the character, while aligning perfectly with what we've seen before.
All episodes of The Acolyte are streaming on Disney+.
