Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.

Looking at Cyberpunk 2077 in 2026, it really is remarkable to see just how far the game has come. When the game first launched back in 2020, who among us could possibly have guessed we'd not only be celebrating Cyberpunk 2077's fifth Birthday, but actively lamenting the game's end?

Following years of updates and a Netflix spinoff, plus numerous comics that are well worth your time and two upcoming spinoff games, it's a great time to be a Cyberpunk 2077 fan. Of course, all good things must come to an end, and Cyberpunk 2077 is no different.

Cyberpunk 2077's Final Update Is Sadly Inevitable

Since launch, Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that has consistently delivered exciting updates to players. The last major update was released back in July, of course. Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.3 added a ton of new vehicles, side jobs, customization options, and a slew of new features for the game's Photo Mode. This was, of course, after we told not to expect any more major updates.

Why is this important? Because CD Projekt RED recently told us, once again, that Cyberpunk 2077 won't be getting any more new content. Or, to be more specific, CDPR said it has no plans for additional DLC or expansions, which does give us some wiggle room when it comes to new updates.

This is nothing new for CDPR, who have been telling gamers they're finished adding new content to Cyberpunk 2077 since the game-changing 2.0 update back in September 2023. That, of course, was swiftly followed 2.1 in December of the same year. 2.2 landed one year after that. My point? That Cyberpunk 2077's "final update" is never quite as final as we think. Heck, just last month we got another update for Cyberpunk 2077 that introduced PS5 Pro support.

Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Refuse To Believe We're Done

And who can blame them?

"I'm sure we'll keep getting small bonus updates and QOL fixes until the next game comes out," one Reddit user wrote when discussing the question of the game's last update "We've already had two past any support that we were expecting. Once Orion is out though, I think all support will be done."

"There will be more updates, most certainly," said another. "I would put money on a content release when the next season of Edgerunners comes out. Otherwise, I think we can look forward to a small update each year that expands on simple things like clothes, or the crystal coat system being expanded to weapons/clothes."

We all know the big focus at CDPR right now is The Witcher 4, and that work has even started on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. But does this truly mean the end of the game we've all come to adore? I honestly don't think so.
