Michelle Keegan's scathing former comments about husband Mark Wright came back to haunt her on Monday, just hours after the actress confirmed her pregnancy.

The former Coronation Street star announced her first pregnancy with husband Mark in a series of Instagram posts on Sunday - nine years their lavish Essex wedding.

But the ceremony might never have happened at all had Michelle, 37, heeded her own comments about her TV personality husband in 2011.

In a section from her newly-resurfaced Love It! magazine column  - titled 'Tut Tut, Mark' - the then 29-year old star aired some less than complimentary views about her future husband, at he time in a stop-start relationship with The Only Way Is Essex co-star Lauren Goodger

She wrote: 'I love TOWIE! It's one of those shows you don't want to watch, but just can't help turning on. I don't know how Lauren can take Mark back so easily, though - it's so cringe!

'I wouldn't' be able to get back with someone who'd slept with lots of girls I knew, but that's just me.'

Mark and Lauren, who were together for ten years on and off, rose to fame on the ITVBe reality series, with storylines revolving around his numerous flirtations with other women, including co-stars Lucy Mecklenburgh and Sam Faiers.

Mark and Lauren even got engaged on TOWIE in March 2011 - only for the Essex lad to call things off five months later - and there has been bad blood between the pair ever since.

A year and a half later, Mark and Michelle met on a group holiday to Dubai and fell madly in love.

In September 2013, less than a year after their New Year's break, the pair were engaged, trying the knot in May 2015.

The couple confirmed the happy news in a joint Instagram post on Sunday, sharing a sweet photograph in which Michelle cradled her blossoming bump.

They captioned the post: '2025 is going to be a special one for us...'

Heart Radio host Mark, who rose to fame on ITVBe series TOWIE, is already an uncle to footballer brother Josh's two children as well as sister Jess's son and has spoken over the years about wanting to become a father himself one day.

Michelle had plenty to say about his stop-start relationship with former TOWIE-co-star Lauren Goodger (pictured together in 2011)

The expectant parents were seen together on Sunday December 22 alongside Mark's former TOWIE co-star James Argent and his new girlfriend as they enjoyed a double date at the Ivy.

Friends of the couple have admitted they took the baby reveal photo in November during a winter break to Majorca, one of their favourite holiday destinations.

Michelle and Mark started telling their loved ones in autumn and decided to keep the secret for as long as possible, according to The Sun.

The insider said: 'Michelle and Mark went on a winter sun break in early November and chose to take the photograph there.

'It was taken on an empty beach by a friend when they knew no one would spot them.

Michelle's pregnancy comes a year after she starred in Netflix drama Fool Me Once, which became one of the streamer's most watched shows of all-time.

The Harlan Coben adaptation saw Michelle play military pilot Maya Stern and was an instant global hit, with over 98,200,200 views in the first 91 days.

She started her career on ITV's Coronation Street where she portrayed Tina for six years before leaving the Cobbles in 2014.
