Harry Styles said he 'wants to be honest about where I'm at in life' as he addressed fans' concerns that he will retire during his NYC gig.

The Watermelon Sugar hitmaker, 32, fuelled retirement rumours after writing 'I don't know what comes next' in an email to fans earlier this week.

During the ninth night of his MSG residency on Saturday, the former One Direction star took a moment to explain to fans what he meant when he wrote the email.

He said: 'I sort of just want to be honest about who I am and where I am in my life, and you know, I didn't wanna get to the end of the tour as we have previously and sort of say 'until next time,' uh I just wanted to be a little more honest with you about that.

'I think, since I was 16 and I've been working in music, everything in my life has sort of taught me that everything in this world is about getting more and achieving more and more shows and bigger things and bigger... everything.

'I think a lot of things have happened to me in the last few years of my life, different things, that have sort of just changed my perspective, and I'm working on learning to be content with what is enough.

During the ninth night of his MSG residency on Saturday, the former One Direction star took a moment to explain to fans what he meant when he wrote the email earlier this week where he said 'I don't know what comes next'

'I don't ever want these moments to ever feel less special because once they're done, they're sort of on to the next thing.  These shows have been the joy of my life, they're so incredibly special to me.

'I think in part because I know things like this don't last forever and I just wanna thank you for all the support you've given me over the years.

'I just wanna thank you for allowing me to do this with you and I think part of the reason why these shows are feeling so special to me in a very new way is that I appreciate the moment.

'I wanted to be open with you and share it with you because I think maybe all together we can acknowledge how nice it is to be in these rooms and have these moments. It's been a privilege and an honour. Thank you so much.

'I'm not saying anything dramatic; I'm not trying to be dramatic; I'm just saying... don't worry. It's just.. I love you, and I wanted to speak to you like I would speak to my friends about this.

'I feel like getting to the end and saying 'until next time' is not enough. I just wanted to be a little more open with you. I love you so much. This song I wrote for you, this is Carla's Song.'

It comes after Harry emailed fans with a 'message from Harry' to share the news that he will be adding 'more cities' after his current run of gigs comes to an end.

Harry is in the midst of a 30-night Madison Square Garden residency that commenced August 26 and wraps up October 31.

Sending fans an email in the early hours of Thursday, Harry wrote: 'When we decided to do the 2026 tour I knew it would be special but what you turned it into was far beyond what I could have imagined'

The singer emailed fans with a 'message from Harry' to share the news that he will be adding 'more cities' after his current run of gigs comes to an end

He will then head to Australia to perform four nights in Melbourne before wrapping up with two final shows in Sydney.

Fans were led to believe that this would be the end of Harry's tour, which supports his latest album, Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally.

However, he has now announced it will not be the end, which he admitted was something he initially found 'daunting'.

'I love playing music, I love being with all of you and being a part of the love and joy you all create together every night. That’s why I wanted you to be the first to know we will be adding 2027 dates, which  honestly at first I found daunting.

'Being an artist is the only life I’ve ever known really, I have been doing this since I was 16 years old, and I feel like the luckiest person in the world to still be sharing these moments with you.'

Revealing that the dates will be announced later, he said: 'Tomorrow's announcement will be the final cities of Together, Together.'

The next part of Harry's message concerned fans, as he hinted he may step away from music when the tour does finally end.

He said: 'After that, I don’t know what comes next for me, but l know that I’m excited to find out. I can't wait for us all to keep dancing with our friends. I hope to see you there. Thank you for coming out to see us, and for all the love and support you’ve given me over the years.'

Fans erupted online after the notification and shared their excitement online, saying: 'Sorry I can't my close personal best friend Harry Styles emailed me that he's releasing more tour dates tomorrow';

'Are you normal or can you not sleep because Harry Styles is announcing final shows tomorrow for god knows how long and is literally retiring (im dramatic but im free)'; 'Okay after that email my Harry Styles budget for 2027 is unlimited. I should apply for another credit card while we're at it; 'Who else just got an email from Harry Styles'.

However, some were hung up on the line about how he 'doesn't know what's next' after the end of the tour

However, some were hung up on the line about how he 'doesn't know what's next' after the end of the tour.

They said: 'Harry Styles your email simultaneously ruined and made my day, thanks for that'; 'Just woken up and Harry Styles has broken up with me over email...'; 'Wtf was that Harry Styles email...'; 'How did Harry manage to make an announcement for extra tour dates sound sad'; 'I'm gonna throw up Harry Styles just ruined my life with an email'; 'Woken up to a threatening email from Harry Styles'.

During one of his recent New York shows, Harry cracked a cheeky joke about his ex Taylor Swift's Madison Square Garden wedding during the gig.

Later that evening while on stage he lightheartedly addressed Taylor and Travis' wedding. Harry and Taylor dated from late 2012 to January 2013.

'We're at Madison Square Garden, home of the world champion New York Knicks,' Harry said in fan-taken footage taken near the end of his show.

'And they also do weddings,' he added.

The comment comes after it was reported that Harry was allegedly invited to the wedding on July 3 but declined the invitation.

He was unable to attend because he had a show in London that night amid his concert tour at the time.

His fiancée Zoe Kravitz was in attendance at the couple's wedding, however. Zoe and Taylor have been longtime friends.

While it has been around 13 years since their high-profile fling, Harry and Taylor now appear to be on friendly terms.
