Halle Berry's Unique Engagement Ring: Jewelers Weigh In on the Price

Halle Berry is engaged and proud of it!

The Crime 101 actress showed off her new bling during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonThursday, where she confirmed her engagement to longtime love, Van Hunt, after five years of dating.

"There's some confusion that he asked to marry me and I said no," Berry said before sharing the news. "But, that's not the case?" Fallon asked.

No, that's not the case. I did not say 'no,' we just don't have a date. Of course, I said 'yes, I would marry him.'

Berry then showed off the "little ring" that Hunt gave her, but it was anything but, shocking Fallon, who joked, "Oh, a little." Now, jewelers are weighing in on the flashy rock. People reached out to three fine jewelry experts to get the lowdown on the "deeply personal" ring — and it's eye-watering price tag!

Chau Liu, co-founder of CELI, told the outlet that she believes that the center stone, a bezel-cut diamond estimated to weigh around 2 carats, is surrounded by over 20 colored diamonds and precious gemstones set in an "architectural" arrangement on timeless yellow gold, telling People that the ring "reflects several modern trends," but is still unique and "deeply personal." Kegan Fisher, the CEO and co-founder of Frank Darling, echoed a similar sentiment, adding that the sparkler is the "architectural interpretation of modern maximalism."

"With its use of negative space, geometric forms, and the confident mix of diamonds and sapphires, it feels very much of the moment —and perhaps ahead of it," Fisher added of the unique engagement ring, which she believes could be worth up to 3 carats.

Jillian Sassone, the founder of Marrow Fine, also agreed that Berry's one-of-a-kind ring will be a trendsetter for future celebrity engagements to come.

It's one of those rings that immediately stands out. We're seeing a move towards maximalism, and this is a true statement piece that is bold, non-traditional, and feels very her.

As for the cost? Well, it's up there, with Liu placing her guess at over $100,000, while Fisher estimates that the setting alone may have run Hunt a good $200,000.

"Rings in this design category typically range in the high five figures, and if there are colored diamonds, the price can be significantly higher, depending on total carat weight, stone quality and craftsmanship," Liu remarked.

This will be the fourth marriage for Berry, who has been married three times, to David Justice, Eric Benét, and Olivier Martinez. Berry is also a mom to two children, daughter Nahla, whom she shares with ex-boyfriend, Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, and son Maceo, with Martinez.
