Jared is a writer, editor, and Communications Studies graduate who loves popular nerd culture (almost anything to do with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings) and the interactive storytelling medium. Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot.
Little has been revealed about Jason Duval in Grand Theft Auto 6, but we do knowthat he’ll be customizable. The extent of customization will be left to fans’ imaginations until official information about the feature is shared, and yet fans already have strong opinions regarding the various looks they can attribute to Grand Theft Auto 6’s male protagonist.
Twitter/X user GameRoll has shared two stark screenshots of Jason that show how different the character looks with and without a beard. This is hopefully one of many examples of how significant customization can be in Grand Theft Auto 6, and it seems like many fans agree that Jason doesn’t look like he’s even in the same age demographic without facial hair.
GTA 6’s Jason Has Some Diverse Looks
The two screenshots represent what’s probably only a fraction of the customization available, but it’s quite distinct nonetheless: Jason’s hair being a bit longer and poking out of a hat in the screenshot on the left, as well as a bit of a scraggly beard; and Jason’s head being nearly shaved, at least on the sides and back (his hat conceals most of his head) in the right screenshot, as well as a clean-shaven or barely stubbly face.
GameRoll and others have pointed out that Jason looks far younger without facial hair than with it. Moreover, some fans have suggested how they want their Jason to look; for instance, Twitter/X user Zay wants their Jason to look like the late Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner from The Fast and the Furious, while Twitter/X user wants their Jason to look like Ryan Gosling’s Luke from The Place Beyond the Pines.
Customization May Be Key To GTA 6
Realistically, we don’t even know what Jason’s personality is like, and that may be deliberate at this point. He’s ironically a fairly blank canvas as far as his character design goes, with his default character model (the one depicted in beautiful Grand Theft Auto 6 key art) having a short haircut and a five-o’clock shadow.
It’s a default character model that practically begs to be customized, allowing players to define their Jason however they please. There haven’t been any bewildering or wild customizations illustrated in Grand Theft Auto 6’s trailers, to be fair, but it’s plain to see how much facial hair alone can change Jason’s look.
Red Dead Redemption 2’s hair growth system would be phenomenal in Grand Theft Auto 6, too. If it is implemented, it’ll be neat to see how long Jason’s hair and beard can grow and how long it takes in-game to commit to and reach those lengths naturally.
