Gracie Abrams has addressed her 'nepo baby' label as she admitted she understands her privilege in a new interview.

The hitmaker, 26, is the daughter of Star Wars filmmaker legend J.J. Abrams - while her mother is producer Katie McGrath.

Her dad Jeffrey's films have grossed over $4 billion worldwide, making him the eighth-highest-grossing film director of all time.

And during an appearance on The New York Times podcast, Gracie spoke openly about being a nepo baby as she said: 'I get it hardcore'.

'The Nepo stuff is obviously in the discourse, appropriately, and I think about the privilege there.

'I had a safety net and that allowed me the ability to experiment and concentrate and I had the gift of time to dedicate to doing this thing I loved. I wasn't growing up afraid financially and that's the biggest deal,' explained Gracie.

Referencing her parents' backgrounds she continued: 'And then the specific household that I was born into, with my parents both having worked in the entertainment industry for as long as I've been alive.

'There is just this vocabulary that I was so lucky to grow up with so when I see people pointing that out, it's like I get it hardcore.

'The jokes and things, I also understand. You know, like go crazy, I understand the tone of the internet.'

She added: 'I feel very lucky doing what I'm lucky enough to do today. I feel support when I'm playing a show, or when I'm with my friends.

'I have a suspicion that people who either enjoy or just spend their time that way on the internet, the likelihood of them not getting support elsewhere is quite high and so back to the attempting to not take things so personally point, all of what's valid, I feel, and I know.

'Also lots of criticism, like I've had that thought, but 10 times worse.'

Jeffrey is an American filmmaker and composer best known for his works in the genres of action, drama, and science fiction.

He wrote and produced such films as Regarding Henry (1991), Forever Young (1992), Armageddon (1998), Cloverfield (2008), Star Trek (2009), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

And Gracie was quick to acknowledge back in 2024 how lucky she is and to explain that her parents are kept far away from her music career.

In an interview with iHeart Radio, she said, 'There's a privilege in having even grown up around the knowledge of what the entertainment world looks like at all...

'But I definitely kept them so far out of it. Songwriting, for me, was always just a personal outlet to deal with my experiences without having to talk to anyone, especially my parents for many years.'

Gracie is in a relationship with Irish actor Paul Mescal, and the pair recently reportedly took a huge step with the singer moving to London to live with the Gladiator star.

Gracie is said to have moved to the UK at the end of last year, with a source telling The Sun she is spending her time in London writing and recording new music.

The couple are reportedly described as 'the real deal' by pals - and Gracie is even said to have travelled to Ireland where Paul's family live.

'Gracie has loved exploring the city and even popped over to Ireland too,' the source said. 'She plans to remain here for a while because of how happy she is.

'They seem very settled and serious.'
