Channel Seven star Larry Emdur has shared a heartbreaking plea while paying tribute to his late father.

The Gold Logie winner, 60, took to Instagram on Saturday to remember his father, Dave, on what would have been his 90th birthday.

Larry shared a throwback photo that showed him cradling his then-baby son Jye.

Dave proudly stood next to his celebrity son and his new grandson in the sweet family snap.

'My dear ol' dad would've been 90 today. He was my hero and mentor and I think about him everyday,' Larry captioned the photo.

'Now you may have seen this pic on my feed before but today it jumped out at me as extra powerful.

The Morning Show host continued: 'How's this for a set of numbers?  When this photo was taken Dad was 60, I was 30 and Jye was 0 (few days old). 

'Today Jye is 30, I'm 60 and Dad would've been 90. I love this pic and I love that those numbers are all perfectly aligned on this particular day .. love ya Davo, miss you mate.'

He then issued an impassioned plea for people to quit smoking, implying that his father passed away from a smoking-related illness.

'If you smoke please try and quit, smoking will ruin your life then it will probably kill you .. I know it's hard but please try, if not for yourself then for the people who love you. Quitline 137848.'

Larry's heartfelt post was met with an outpouring of support from followers.

'These Memories most certainly become sooo important as the years go by,' one offered

'Enjoy this special day. Your Dad is definitely watching over you all.'

Another jumped in with, 'Any man who can express his feelings like you do is a GOOD MAN. God bless your dear dad Larry. And I agree wholeheartedly about the cigarettes.'

Larry's Seven colleague, weatherman Sam Mac, also jumped in offering three white heart emojis.

Others were quick to pay their own tributes to Larry's father, with one summing up he sentiment of many that knew him.

'What a lovely memory of Mr. Emdur who I used to go to the markets with when we lived next door, the follower wrote.

'A lovely man with a fabulous sense of humour. You are so much like him.'

Back in 2021, Larry made another impassioned plea for people to stub out the cigarettes on the anniversary of his father's death.

The Morning Show host posted a photo of himself with his dad on Instagram as he made a powerful statement calling on his followers not to take up smoking.

'I still miss my best mate,' Larry wrote in the sombre tribute.

'It's the anniversary of my dad's death and I always like to post a pic on this day in the hope I can stop just one of you from smoking.'

The Channel Seven presenter added a link to the Government-sponsored smoking support website icanquit.com.au.

Larry shares two children, Jye, 30, and Tia, 24, with wife Sylvie.
